.AJ.
There’s isn’t really much choice for the B, I may bite the bullet and just go for aluminium bulks
Tug
Lot of damage for a smallish tumble?
.AJ.
Not really, it only pulled some threads, it was a pretty heavy hit though
.AJ.
2 standard transmission cases order, along with a selection of m5 csk screws, it looks like on the front I can use longer screws than stock, I cant find any rear body mounts in the UK, so I’m going to make my own. I’ve order some L section aluminium and I’ve found a front mount I’m going to mod, I’ll separate the 2 posts and use the L to mount to my previous modified location and then mount the posts to the L 👍
.AJ.
I’ve just ordered a pair of these for the rebuild, plus a set of shock boots, the ones on the buggy have started to perish https://www.rcmodelz.co.uk/atop-rc-alloy-one-piece-center-diff-housing-silver.html?___SID=S
Mack1
Looks a nice bit of kit and price seems quite good compared to some other makes I have seen. I quite like the look of the red one myself. Maybe on the next diff rebuild I can invest.
.AJ.
They do look good, I can’t see it performing any different to the TLR one have in the centre or a £60 IRC or RCMAX one 👍
Mack1
I reckon a lot of it is down to branding. The more people recognise a brand the more people want to be seen with that brand so the price will go up to reflect that if that makes sense. Could argue neither are needed but that's the difference.
.AJ.
True, either way you are still stuck with the stock O-ring on the ring gear side, so kinda pointless having a wiper seal just on one side
mond
I've never had one leak but I did buy the rcmax one to go in the centre as I melted the centre on my 5ive shortly after putting a Scott Finlay 34cc in it. Destroyed itself in spectacular fashion.
.AJ.
The plastic centre ones will melt with a 26cc if run hard enough, the funny angle of the front driveshaft generates a fair bit of heat as well
Tug
A fair bit of heat? They're too hot to touch! Pretty sure I've recorded temps above 90C on the front out-drive cup! However, I've yet to melt the stock cup.
.AJ.
When a petrol powered one can run for 40mins on a tank they melt pretty easy, low oil weight doesn’t help either
mond
The only ones i've seen melt were 30DNT ones up until I melted my own.
.AJ.
My mate melted one in his 5ive T V1
.AJ.
Fitting the new alloy diff cup to the rear diff...... The outdrives are showing a very small amount of wear, so i’ve swapped them left to right, there is zero wear on the ring gear or pinion and the pinion coupling has zero play.... You can also see the MOD diff inserts. The diff was refilled with 50k. Yeah yeah, I know I should really replace the gasket, but my plumbing mind says it will be absolutely fine 👍 So far I’m very impressed with Atop diff cup 👍
.AJ.
I bought a set of shock boots at the same time They are junk, they are miles too long for even the rear shocks and fit really poor...
mond
For the price of the genuine boots you can pick up some shockwears which is silly really. Not bothered with boots since. The mod inserts are nice. I might have to get some next time I rebuild. There's slight sideways play in the rear at the moment although the ring and pinion seem absolutely fine.
.AJ.
I’ve never been a fan of shockwears, but think I’ll pick a set up next week 👍
mond
I'm not a fan of the look either but they make maintenance super easy and keep everything clean and very well protected. Easy to remove unlike other shock sock type things.
.AJ.
Front diff is now done, there was pretty much zero wear on the outputs and like the rear the pinion and ring gear are still perfect, it’s has been filled with 100k as before👌
.AJ.
All back together and bench tested, all seems good, also added a bit more rear toe, I’ve gone from 3 to 3.5 degree Still need to to fab up some kind of rear body mount 👍
.AJ.
And that’s a rear body mount bodged together Needs a bit of refining, but it will work just fine 👍
