My photography thread. *will get picture heavy*

Oh How Original

Recommended Posts

I thought as a few of you seem interested in photography and have complimented a few of my pictures I'd post some up in my own photography thread.

There will be a mix of random stuff in here, not technically/professionally perfect, I just take pictures I like, rather than what I think a magazine might want to use etc... There also probably won't be as much RC stuff as some might hope.

To save me posting individual settings and what I'm using as it'd simply take too long, I'm currently shooting on a Nikon D7200, but only recently purchased, previously had a D3300 (which I really miss!) and I have a Tokina 28-80 F/3.5, Nikon 18-55 F/3.5-5.6G, Nikon 55-200 F/4-5.6G and just ordered a Nikon 70-300 F/4-5.6D.

Hope you enjoy.

This lady looked right at me taking her picture, she didn't seem to mind at all and once I'd taken the camera from my face actually gave me a little smile, I think she realised why I was shooting her, you're never too old to rock a scooter lol.

People got confused over what this guy is doing... He was flying a kite, not using exercise rings, I got a shot of the kite, but really liked this picture, it is one of my favourites for some reason.

Nice set of shots there Dan, not all to my taste but the monochrome stood out for me, my wife is a wildlife photographer so I see a lot of wild places around the UK, the one which really stood out for me was the orangutan very poignant, I'm not a fan of zoos and "wildlife parks".

Yes I must admit, I don't visit zoos for pleasure, we just took the kids, I thought it would be a nice chance to get some shots at the very least.

I'm really wanting to get my car licence sorted, it would be umpteen times easier for photography than on the bike.

Cars are easier, hence the landrover to get to the harder to reach places, and it means i dont have to lug tripods and lenses about whilst she does the artsy fartsy bit?

Well I treated myself to some nice walking boots the other day and some 'outdoor' pants, along with my Trespass jacket, I should be good to hit some places by foot... But need the car bit sorting first.

Well I had an issue with a 70-300mm lens I bought, it's an older Japanese made one which I found out today was originally designed for film cameras, so you have to have the aperture set to a very specific point on the lens for it to work.
I didn't know this, the guy in the camera shop sorted it in a few seconds.
When I walked in I said I'd probably be his most awkward customer of the day, after he'd fixed it, he chuckled and said 'see, you weren't my most awkward customer of the day' lol.
As a sign of good gesture for him sorting it for free, despite it not being a major repair or long job, I bought a 35mm F/1.8G lens, I've wanted a 35mm for a while anyway and they are offering an extra 2 years warranty for a few more weeks, so it seemed like a good time to buy.

Walking through the kitchen the other day and heard a really loud buzzing, not like the normal buzz of a fly or bee or something.

Looked around, saw a fly that had just flown into a spiders web, with the spider casually making it's way over to the fly.

I legged it upstairs but unfortunately just wasn't fast enough to get a picture of the spider walking toward the fly, I did get these couple of them struggling mid-kill though.

I know the focus isn't perfect, they were really struggling and with the springy action from the web they were moving so quickly.

I do like the two keepers I got though, let me know what you think.

We headed out last night to get some more shots, much happier with these light trails than the previous ones.

Also took the opportunity to grab a few others... I also got to try out my new Manfrotto bag, it's quite nice, not quite as big as I'd hoped, but it was only £24.99, vs over £200 for some of the Thinktank variations.

Ultimately I'd like a Billingham, but don't think I'll ever spend that amount on a bag.

I don't like to upload several of the same thing, but really couldn't decide which to upload between these three keepers, I like them all for different reasons.

Bit of an update from me, I am now into mirrorless, I have a pretty basic but very impressive Fujifilm XE1 and I have just bought a new Nikon D700 because I felt it was the best time to go full frame.

Got a 14mm f/2.8 lens coming with it and a 50mm f/1.8, so it should be good for some astro, street and general crap I usually do lol.

Here's a few from my Fujifilm.

You can also scroll through my Flickr and give it a follow if you fancy.

The photo of the starry sky didn't turn out very nice, you have to choose macro mode and a very fast shutter speed. When my daughter and I used a street photographer service, he took a long time to choose special lenses to make a blue hour photo. He said he didn't need flash on, but it would be blurry and blurry without special lenses. I remember it well, and then at a convenient opportunity I turned on filters on my iPhone to make a good shot.
