Kyosho Dirt Hog

I have a Kyosho dirthog and it's been part of my collection for the last two years, my son has been using it and I noticed that the car is a bit sluggish for my liking even with a full battery and a change of the motor, bit still the same speed output. Any ideas guys...gears - it's also a very heavy car too.8fca96353e38f5f2aa915edd83511661.jpg0c72826e5d87b13c7b6b59a407acae54.jpg6dfbd931772e94884482b472517e2dc6.jpg

Just something to watch out for... You seem to have left your battery plugged in whilst working on it.  It looks like a nihm as opposed to lipo so not as bad, but get in the habit of disconnecting, removing and safely storing. Especially if going lipo. ?

+1 on the brusbless and lipo combo. It will be loved again.

Brushes are probably worn. Either replace with a similar brushed motor or switch to BL, but be warned, the power increase is significant, although that depends on what motor you go for.

The battery will probably have given up too, all cells only have a certain number of cycles in them, either replace with another nimh or switch tho Lipo. If you go Lipo, read up on their care requirements first!

A mild brushless system would do OK. You really don;t want too much power in a light car like that, as it will probably tear up the drivetrain and make the car very hard to drive. Not what a 10yr old wants. This also isn't going to be cheap....

I would suggest a 60Amp ESC ( your brushed ESC will need to go as well )and a motor around 3500Kv. On 2S LiPo that will be plenty fast enough, but not so crazy that it will be silly. Hobbywing used to do a 60A ESC and 3800KV 3656 motor. Apparantly..it has been replaced with a slightly shorter 3300Kv can. That ought to be spot on. The new can is 36mm diameter, 52mm long...so you can check if it fits in the space you have. ESC is waterproof.

Then you are going to want a couple of 2S LiPos to run with, and a compatable charger.

Same sort of spec I was suggesting and I agree...it should be fine .... again though...check the size of the motor against the recess you have to fit it in. The chassis design is not very flexible in terms of motor choice. Normally...motor length isn't a problem, but with this Kyosho..That e-bay listing gives the dimension...60mm from the face of the motor to the back of the can. Make sure you have room before parting with cash!
