Tamiya WT-01 Build

Old hat design with many flaws and weak diffs. A 380 quid Revo could be a money pit....

As you are struggling to find places to run 1/10th slower rigs, why look at a faster and larger 1/8th?

Wait, so I don't get it... No fast cars, no slow crawlers, no car?  So the conclusion is I should not buy any RC cars?

This is confusing...

Buy whatever you like, but if running space is an issue, then perhaps tailor your purchase to suit? I'm only going on previous comments made by yourself relating to limited running space where you live.

So, for myself, I run 1/18th around the garden/street, 1/10th on the street/in parks and 1/5th in parks, though I accept I may need to travel to find somewhere exciting and suitable. Being a car owner makes this easy, I would not like to have to use public transport to go bashing, being as I take spare batteries, parts and tools if out for a long session - the boot of the beemer soon fills up!

I'm not sure you yet really know what you truly want from an RC.....myself, I'd be happy pootling the WT01 around and enjoying it for what it is....:good:

I think Noj has hit the nail on the head there. The answer isn't no cars. The answer is lots of cars!

Rather than trying to make one car do everything, you may want to work towards having a fleet of cars, each one somewhat of a specialist in its field. Feel in the mood for tackling some really rough terrain to see if you can conquer it? Take your crawler! Feel the need for speed? Take your high-powered brushless speed machine! Fancy doing some RC but the weather is miserable outside and you'd rather stay at home? Time for your Orlandoo microscaler!

The WT-01 is a great introduction to the hobby, a great first build, and a potential base for some great mods that can take it in whatever direction you choose. But not every direction at once. Time for a bigger fleet methinks! B)

(And in the meantime, I'd say stick one of those excellent yet affordable Orion rebuildable brushed motors in your WT-01 to give it more pep, then drive it at every opportunity, in every setting you can, to get a better idea of the direction in which you want to expand your fleet.)

You start with one and then...started with Tamiya years ago, still use them, but collection now expanded, just like most things in life. Plenty of time for this to happen in your case me thinks, just dont rush, if you can be patient. How about a drifter to add to the choice? Just need some smooth tarmac, not too big and must be some in London without and cars on it.

guys need help with connecting the wires to the motor.  Orion Method Pro 15 Turn Motor ORI25127

where does the wire goes?? There are 4 connectors..

Look close and you'll see that there are two connector plates on the motor each with tabs at thr top and bottom. So while it looks like there are four separate connector tabs at first glance you'll soon see that there are two pairs. Doesn't matter which way round the wires are connected as you can switch them if the motor runs the wrong way.

If you look at the motor end-on, you'll see two of the connectors are on one piece of metal, and the other two are on another piece of metal. You need one connector connected to each piece of metal. Don't connect them both to the same one otherwise you will short out your ESC.

The motor may have a little "+" symbol or a red mark on one of the metal pieces. This is by convention where you'd connect the red wire, but you don't have to worry if you can't find it - both wires do exactly the same thing.

OH NO! That's not good at all!

Does the motor spin smoothly when you turn it by hand, or is it jammed?

Can you see any foreign bodies stuck in the motor anywhere?

Glad your ESC is still okay at least...

It turns when I turn it by hand. It doesn't seems anything is stuck :(

Oh I figure it out, The screw that connects the motor and the gear box was too tight and it went inside the motor to the point where the motor can't turn. It seems thats the problem. I connected it again by taking out the motor and it works fine :)

wow, scared me.  I think I will need a shorter screw...

Do you have any spare 3mm washers? If so, you can put them on the motor bolts before putting them in the car. They will stop the bolts protruding as far into the motor, so that it can spin unimpeded.

I shortened the screw by cutting it to avid too much penetrate in to the motor.

I think you should enjoy your WR01 with its new lease of life and added zip from tha motor. Save your pennies and get something completely different to run along side your WR01, as opposed to trying to find a one size fits all RC.

my issue is, too many of mine are too similar. Enjoy your current rig for what it is, stop watching YouTube videos of completely different RCs and expect yours to be like that and enjoy it for what it is. Don't spend anymore, save up, and then look for something completely different.

Tamiya don't glue the tyre and rim at all - they leave that for you to do when building the kit.

Some people glue all around the rim, but I prefer to put a few dots of glue - just enough to stop the tyre slipping on the rim and/or coming off in corners. This makes it easier to change tyres when they wear out, and also easier to empty out any debris that might enter through the vent holes.

As for which glue to use, I like ordinary cyanoacrylate, but others prefer rubberised glue or even silicone sealer.

Tamiya dont glue their tyres. Super glue and a steady hand, peel back tyre in one area, carefully apply glue to rim, carefully release tyre onto rim and make sure it's seated square, too much glue will ooze out everywhere, move to new section, let glue go off over night. Are there any foams inside the tyre?
