maesterio
Hello folks, This is the start to a new losi 5ive build thread. I will be receiving it this Wednesday, late due to the bank holiday. I am already getting bits & bobs together so had a couple questions on certain things, thought i'd start a thread & put them all here 1) For the dual steering, which 2 servo's will be better: Savox 0235 or 0236? 2) What is a locked center diff in a 5ive & what does it do? 3) I got a rcmk on the way for it, do I need to upgrade any bits of the transmission? (or what will give out first) 4) Does a 19T bell work with the stock spur or does that need to be changed? 5) I know they come pretty much bulletproof, but does anything stock in a 5ive need upgrading? Sorry some questions might be dumb. For anyone wondering, here is the 5ive: Current spec: Losi 26cc engine Bartalone racing big bore xp pipe (awesome:P) Bartalone racing springs TGN air filter cover & outerwears pullstart savox 0235 steering, standard throttle Losi 5ive wheels with silverback beadlocks & MXT Hostile tires. DDM fuel cap. Here is order I have already made & paid for, just need to decide on which servo. Fid racing steering arm assembly Extended axles Fid racing dual bearing steering bars GTB al front & rear titanium chassis brace 2 Savox 0235 or 0236 (still deciding) GTB dual bearing metal servo arms Fid racing rear skid plate Fid racing front skid plate Arena rc ball joints Fid racing front alloy shock tower (beefier than stock) Fid racing rear alloy shock tower GTB vented adjusted clutch bell with 19T pinion GTB 4pc stainless steel brake pads & 2 carbon fibre brake disks GTB cnc front top chassis brace FID dust proof fender FID Split clutch bell mount GTB Dual servo tray setup GTB front & rear turnbuckle linkage's Fid racing cnc center diff brace All that is from one supplier at pretty wicked prices so cannot go with other brands. Also have a rcmk on the way, that will be paired with the bartalone big bore that's coming with the 5ive. Going to give it a big rebuild when I get it, it does not need it at all but that's what I enjoy doing. Will be a mad one! Pharrel
5ives are pretty rare! 1) For the dual steering, which 2 servo's will be better: Savox 0235 or 0236? 2) What is a locked center diff in a 5ive & what does it do? 3) I got a rcmk on the way for it, do I need to upgrade any bits of the transmission? (or what will give out first) 4) Does a 19T bell work with the stock spur or does that need to be changed? 5) I know they come pretty much bulletproof, but does anything stock in a 5ive need upgrading? 1) I'd go for 236 but 235 is just as good. 2) A locked center diff means that you will get All Wheel Drive. Constant 4WD action = better acceleration, less tire ballooning. Personally I don't like locking diffs so I just use very thick diff oil. 3) How powerful is the engine? People put 8+HP engines in 5ives and the stock drivetrain lasts quite a while. The output drives and center shafts will be wearing out faster on a powerful motor. These can be upgrades with Phatdad parts, expensive though. Everything else should handle the power just fine, it's quite bulletproof 4) Do you mean the 19T pinion? It will work just fine with the stock spur as that's standard. 5) Can't think of anything important at the moment but if you look up my Losi 5ive thread, I've listed pretty much everything I did to mine. Pharrel
I will say though, there is no need to upgrade shock towers. The stock ones are very durable.
mini-z-awd
i would think about buying some extra cvds my mate broke one of his front ones today totaly sheared it of were it connects to the hub
maesterio
It's the rcmk cr300b reportedly 7.5hp @ 19,000rpm, so drivetrain should be ok with the stock oils etc. (I'll be surprised if it actually performs at those figures, doubt it) & yes sorry was on about the 19T pinion, that's cool if it fits. Person I bought it from (kieren) has already rebuilt the whole thing replaced oils, grease etc. so I'll leave that for now. I'll go around & have a read of some 5ive threads, should make it clear on where I wanna take this.

Feedtheinferno
First thing to replace, the rovan tyres! Looks good dude Mines sat here with me at work today and it looks very much like yours at the moment.
maesterio
This thing is a monster, IMO I think it's too big. but that's how I felt when I got the baja so hopefully I will get used to this. Their is a good chance that it will get a run today going park later on so will get a video up this evening. & yeah dunno why their rovans the listing said mxt hostiles so mhmmmmm Hopefully the engine fires up. Feedtheinferno
I tell you what is a nice little mod, changing the carb to choke-less, something I have done on both of my Losi's just because it means you don't have to reach in all the time to mess with the lever. The Baja's can be carried with one arm however these Losi's just can't be due to their size, but that what makes them amazing!
Rossyra
Interested to see what you do with it matey. Will you be lavishing it with hop-up treats like the Baja?
maesterio
Yeah haha definitely, having a quick look at the shock towers etc it already feels like a tank they are quite thick being stock so kind of confused what it needs. After a bash today I'll hopefully figure out what needs doing. The engine will defo be going on this, dual servo's etc will be going on. But as far as chassis upgrade's i'll have to see figure out the weak points. With the baja I clearly wanted to replace the km parts do all the chassis etc but this losi is looking solid. Feedtheinferno
For dual steering, try and avoid getting a reserved horn set up like me as they are a pain to get right. Lovely when they are right but the amount of fiddling around is unreal!
