Sorry that some of the pictures are crappy my phone seems to have decided that it can't be bothered with also being a camera LOL

Hoping to have this up and running by end of play tomorrow, weather and time permitting!

I'm beginning to hate this car, yet again I've been scuppered!

I need the m5 x 10 x .5mm washers that space the clutch bell and some other bits, i can get M5 washers anywhere but they're all too thick and trying to file them is impossible.

So I've hopefully managed to track some down (none with HPI, none on ebay and I'm sorry Modelsport but I'm not paying

Really frustrated with this car now, I think it'll be in the for sale section or on eBay once I'm happy it works.

It's really testing my patience, if I hadn't opened some of the parts I think it would have gone on there along with parts this morning LOL

It just seems to be fighting me every step of the way.

Silly stuff like these washers and the hour I spent trying to figure out why the receiver wouldn't work only to discover that it was caused by the crimped end in the battery tray coming adrift.

It's the only car I have that doesn't work and it started out as a supposed quick fix.

I just hope I enjoy it when it is finally fixed.

Man this car just doesn't want to be fixed!

The drive shafts are too short :(

I didn't spot it and to be fare to the guy in my local model shop it wasn't immediately obvious but when i read the packet it said RS4 3 Drift which i can only assume has a narrower track than a standard RS3.

So here we go back to square one again!

Off work ill and trapped at home :( Having had no response in the for sale section it dawned on me that either i put it on ebay and get about a quarter of what I've spent back or i might as well put it together as best i can and then see if it at least works, even if it is only rear wheel drive for the time being. So i put the receiver back in and reassembled it. Built up the clutch and pinion gears 13735976183_109d60d5ae.jpg And then the center shaft, clutch and spur gears 13735980573_a7fb2088cd.jpg Then assembled it all back together and ended up with this 13736890533_f32d817421.jpg 13737257144_eb50a22069.jpg Then i thought I'd see what it looked like with the shell on, I've added some stops on the posts to try and support it better, but it's a really bad fit and pain in the arse to get on. It also has no access to anything important like the pull start or the glow plug. It will be fine to get it going though. 13737091205_25e783c184.jpg I can't really try it until the weekend as I'm off work sick and i genuinely haven't got the energy to be carting all the stuff out and trying to start it etc. Still for sale if anyone's interested because i really have fallen out of love with this car, it seems to hate me and it's made be lose some of my mojo for RC stuff as a result.

Well i just couldn't resist it! No front drive shafts yet and it still could do with setting up a bit better but it's the first time it's moved under it's own steam in my ownership.

Sorry for to those of you who will undoubtedly complain that the video has been shot the wrong way i was trying to hold my phone and the controller whilst hoping i wouldn't have a coughing fit again LOL Edited by Markswebpages

Finally got the front drive shafts on Friday.

What a difference that makes! I took it out on Thursday as i was bored and i couldn't keep it in a straight line long enough to accelerate so any speed, but with four wheel drive it's like a different car :)

I guess if i decide to carry on with it something better that the cheap Blacksmith wheels and tyre's will be required and I'd imagine that would improve it yet again.

It still needs tuning and possibly a glow plug as it stalls at idle occasionally and I'm sure it's both a bit lean at low speed and a bit rich at high speed. I've got a thermometer winging it's way to me so i should be able to improve it soon.

Well it still won't run right, but I'm waiting on another engine so I can swap some bits around and see if I can sort it that way. So I've done the only sensible thing and brought a HPI Nissan R32 GTR body :) Hoping to get it painted by next weekend as I'd quite like to take it with me when I go with my mate and his R32 to a GTR register meet at the Ace Cafe, but it'll depend on if I get enough spare time between now and then. 13928103084_5b96ac930a.jpg Untitled by markswebpages, on Flickr Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

As the weather is crap i thought I'd start on this, this for me is the worst bit as trimming and sanding edges seems to take forever,

You have two options for the rear wing, as much as I'm going to hate fiddling round with it it's got to be the polycarbonate one not the big black plastic one unless someone can persuade me it will make a big difference to how the car performs.

First very rough cut, i love getting the shell on just to get an idea of what it will look like it gives me a real buzz and makes me want to get on and get it finished :)

Suddenly the fact that this thing has been a complete ball ache and still doesn't run right has been forgotten, it'll end up as a shelf queen if all else fails :)

Got the paint on the body, still got the decals to apply, mount the spoiler, drill holes for body post and engine cooling. I wanted to see it without holes first though so rightly or wrongly I've left that for later.

The colour is a flake base coat with a grey over the top. The crappy camera phone pictures don't really do it justice but as my second attempt at painting I'm very pleased :)

Finished apart from holes for engine cooling and body post which I can't bring myself to do yet.

This is about as close to a real R32 GTR as I'm ever going to get, I'll try and put some pictures up of my mates real R32 for comparison next weekend :)

Very please, as is the way there are things that when wrong like the mark on the back that i didn't notice until i sprayed it and some of the masking and decal applying didn't quite to plan but hey you can only get better with practice!

Sorry about the amount of pictures, but you just can't help it when you've put some time and effort into something like this :)

By luck I spotted another T15 engine on eBay which I got nice and cheap, so today I just did a straight swap just to see what would happen.

13977682272_2e880a1f69.jpgUntitled by markswebpages, on Flickr

The old one had a stripped thread in the base and I could never get it run. This one looked in better condition and seemed OK so I thought I may as well just give it a go. I'm glad I did as when I took the cover off to transfer the pull start i discovered that inside there was rust and the bearing although it didn't have any play was also covered in rusty oil, so I'm guessing it would have failed one way or another anyway.

Had a bit of a panic as I couldn't get it to start, then discovered that the glow plug that I'd transferred from one to another was dead. Swapped for a new one and it fired straight up, this one seems a bit more stable but is (as is described everywhere I read up about these engines) still proving tricky to tune even with a thermometer.

However this one wants to start after it's been run and I got closer to getting it right before rain stopped play so at least I potentially have something that is usable :)
