That's the only reason you started this thred was to show off wasn't it gaz. ;-0

to be entirely honest mate, theres no where on the forum which most of my collection fit into, possibly replica or buggy but there not really any of them, as i say i reckon we need a vintage/retro section as this would cover the oddballs tamiya mostly throw out as us....

i thought i would start to hopefully get a snowball of pics from you guys to help make this thread worthy of stickyness

so please post them all up

I agree and I think there needs to be a vintage parts section to go with it.

Maybe not as old as some on here.

My XXT CR, mostly stock bar alloy front brace, graphite front shock tower and 556 pistons in the shocks and a silver polished motor plate. But tbh honest, you didn't need to upgrade these to make them good or competitive.

Running a vintage KO Propo servo with external booster, LRP IPC V7 ESC and a 12Turn Quad brushed motor, complete with Losi factory Hydrodrive. The only real modernisation is a 2.4gHz Rx.

And another Losi, this time a XX CR. Completely standards, as apart from shock oil/piston and springs you really didn't need to improve anything to makes these a worth racer. Mine no longer runs the Hydrodrive as it leaked, so just the slipper assy on there now. Waiting for payday and a 9T brushless setup will be going in here.

Both of these have done a lot of bashing and a lot of racing, indoor and outdoor and both have been brilliant!

yes we need a vintage section :D

but i think there should be an age which makes them a vintage! how many years back is the question.

10 years or more maybe?

But what about re-issues or current models?

I've recently bought a Tamiya Lunchbox, but to me it's a new RC, not a vintage model. The simple fact Tamiya have done bugger all to improve it over the years doesn't suddenly make news ones vintage models IMO.

yeah thats a tricky one mate!

my self i have a fighter buggy i brought new in 06 (dont know first release date)

i suppose we could class them as a classic but maybe not vintage. as vintage is old, a re release is technically not old.

like i say its a tuff one to overcome.

it makes them retro hence the title "retro", or would it be easier to say vintage and re-re??

also the lunchbox was conceived in 1987 so by design its vintage, only the electrics modernise it unless you fany a msc??

so yes a lunchbox is welcome whenever it was bought

here we go again, re-re wild willy 2 what the mrs. and kids bought me for christmas.

it has, rubber sealed bearings, tamiya stock esc, tamiya dirt tuned motor, orange spektrum rx, waterproof servo from hk, once it was built i didn`t go for the stock wheels and balloon tyres so decide to remove those and went with stadium blitzer wheels which are a straight fit (hex rear, bearing front) but fancied going for a front hex conversion.......

so all four corners are now replaced with alloy arms, alloy rear hubs, alloy c-hubs, alloy steering knuckles, tamiya cvd`s on the rear, 13mm alloy axle extenders, oil filled shocks with stock springs,  axial wraith kit wheels and hpi yokohama tyres.

also spend a little time on detailing.......

all thats left is some better shocks and a maplins project box for the electrics.

before the wheels and wideners,

now with hex conversion on front, with different wheels and how she stand now,

cost a fair bit for a rc thats a bit of fun, but its how i want it surely???

next is still very much w.i.p,

vintage sand scorcher,

ripped apart cleaned and re-greased with bearings throughout, radio box modded where the rx would go, radshape alloy chassis (soooo nice) direct steering servo mod done which makes such a big improvement on steering!

modern but modest electrics fitted now,

still undecided where to go paint wise with it, do i go boxart or green and white or maybe a bling beach buggy??? help would be appreciated   then correct tyres for the rims (again might need a rethink) and a front boxart wrap around bumper......

I had a King Blackfoot which I assembled with a pair of pliers, a screwdriver and pair of scissors (no specialist tools!!) in Guinea, West Africa.

HATED the mechanical throttle!!

Even with the standard 540 can it was great fun!!

Buggy%20010_zpscuqnuzz7.jpg

This is my favourite retro runner - a DT01 Mad Bull fitted with standard-size buggy wheels. I really think Tamiya missed a trick with this one. They could have very easily released the DT01 in this configuration themselves and called it the Grasshopper III. I am sure plenty of nostalgic Grasshopper fans would have bought it for the name alone. Makes a great basher too!!

Here we have the Tamiya CC01 Pajero, carrying a good few hop-ups from Junfac, GPM and Radshape. Tamiya seem quite fond of re-releasing this shell every so often, and while I like it enough to have bought two of them, I wish they would release a few more shells for the CC01, or maybe re-release the Mu.

This is the vehicle that started it all for me, back when I was in my early years of primary school. My father and I spotted one in a hobby shop, and spent ages drooling over it even though it was way out of our price range back then. However the re-re takes pride of place in my collection.
