When I was a kid I always wanted a tamiya mantaray but could never afford one. Might have a look for one

You really should the Manta Ray is a great buggy and a lot of the spares etc are easy to find as it shares a lot of parts with the TA-01/TA-02 chassis.

I had a Blackfoot back in the day and was always snapping body mounts so then moved on to a dogfighter and I think the Blackfoot went in the bin and haven't had a tamiya since I think I gave up on the quality.

I did on the other hand buy this yesterday and it is winging it's way from Australia as we speak

I

but theres a certain something about a tamiya that appeals, dont ask me what it is but they just make you smile when you use them......

Is that before or after they fall apart and you have to fix em

to be honest if you buy one new and build it as per manual with a bit of thread lock in places and extra grease they are reliable.

i have to say most of mine are hopped up quite a bit but are reliable too.

i think people tend to expect too much from them to be fair....

all of my tamiya have been super reliable! the only thing i have ever broke is a bodyshell on my fighter bugger and that's it.

the traxxas has been worse than all my tamiyas combined.

Same here, my clod for nephews has esc,9kg servo on each axle, beefed up wiring.

But how many models are left standard now days. My clods not modded, just made better and it gets used

For me I'd have an Egress, Avante, Kyosho Turbo Ultima & Turbo Optima.

I always wanted the Original Avante & the Egress,& intend to get them at some point!

Always wondered what the Optima was like to drive. It was a big name at the time too!

I Did own a Turbo ultima back in 89. Great buggy. I've also owned a Midnight Pumpkin around the same time!

now i haven`t seen one of those schumacher minis in a loooong time.....

bit of a wierd design with the twin vertical plates on the chassis but worked very well.

really nice that fella, you should do some gentle running with that

Here's my show.  Its an 1982 Tamiya SUperchamp, with 80's Frewer Escort XR3i body.  Brought the body off a guy on tamiyaclub, who used to race it in the 80's.  Its currently in bits, but being rebuilt ASAP for a vintage meet in August.
