A 'What do you think' Post

200mm bodies on 190mm chassis need offset wheels to fill the arches right, otherwise it looks like someone bought the wrong size body. Also needs raising up because the car won't phsyically move without scuffing and scraping the floor.

Garry, ive trimmed the skirts and both bumpers a few mm so it looks low but it still has a few mm to miss the ground. Sits at the same height as my S2000 shell and that clears the ground nicely :)

Ive also used a nut as a spacer on the axles tightened down to take the slop out and given it about 4mm extra width each side.

  • 2 weeks later...

Im a big fan of WRC so the rally shells are always a favorite of mine :)))) (I once had an old shape HPI Impreza WRC shell with 3, yes 3 rear wing fins and extended wing posts to make them all fit in sequencial order)

Unique? I think so :D

As said though, the body fitting needs to be spot on, or it will rub on the tyres and not handle well, not to mention wear your tyres and paintwork.

i'd love to get a realistic WRC body on my car and make it TQ at my local club. It will never happen though, too much time and money to waste on something that would be too hard to achieve....

My car has seen better days, so I would rather spend any spare money on getting my car replaced LOL.

There is a good gap above the wheels and it clears the ground nicely, i did have the 07 monte carlo subaru WRX shell but it got bashed hard regular so it got wreaked. Can get a xsara rally shell, there is one at my LHS but i want the TT ER4 mini shell for my 1:8 buggy to make a rally car out of it :)

I do like the Evo's though, I went through a phase of totally liking the imprezas.... then every one I saw was blue and I got bored of them lol.

Many many years ago, 3 of us in the same car club had the same shell, we had to end up painting them all different colours or it would have been mayhem as we were always in the same heat of racing LOL

I painted mine metallic mint green (looked half decent until I put a 3 tier wing on it for extra downforce haha) another painted his the WRC blue, another painted his metallic red. (a good alternative).

Looks well good on the Tamiya rims!

Might look better still on some chrome ones such as these:

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/fastrax-15-spoke-touring-car-wheel-tyre-set-4-chrome/rc-car-products/33233

They have the same offset as the white Tamiyas, so should fill the arches nicely. Plus the chrome bling should look good with the flip paint.

That shell is long gone XV, been chopped up into repair patches for strengthening other shells. Im going to get a Mk1 ford escort from Kamtec fot it next i think and get the rally spots. Multispoke rims like that are weak for bashing, dishes are more durable.

Pity that shell is no more. It looked really good I think!

The Tamiya multispoke rims are indeed weak. My father used to use them on his TT01, and usually broke at least one each race meet. The Fastrax ones (and the Ansmanns that look identical and are probably produced in the same far Eastern sweatshop) are a lot stronger though, as they have a thicker, deeper rib behind each spoke, and a more substantial rim. I use them on my track racing TT01, and haven't broken one yet!

Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but as you asked "what do you think".....

I think that your trying to get your bodies too low, in doing so your having to cut the sills and wheel arches too high to have a car that drivers, which then makes the body look all out of proportion.

As an example look at my old Skyline shell

Slammed:

Normal useful stance

Again beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to me the slammed one just looks stupid, whereas the normal ride height puts the body into proportion more.

I tend to save fantastic pics that really impress me, so here are a few other examples.

Low but in proportion

Probably a noggin too low for my tastes but the rest more than make up for it

So try having the shell a bit higher and not cutting so much out of the sills and wheels arches.

One on the Toms tamiya rims and one on schumy contact black carbons.

I'm really liking this! Congrat's on how it all worked out for you :))))

My sons tt01 will be WRC blue with standard WRC decals (and the stock light kit if I fit it) The Solberg WRC car of 2008.... :) To look very Factory WRC spec.... I am doing a build review so I have to keep it looking all out of the box spec for now.

I've got to finish the build which means getting the electrics in it and then cutting and spraying the shell... The weather hasnt been kind to me recently!!!

Same again with every shell, some nice painting and designs ruined by having the shell sit too low so having the wheel arches cut too high.
