Everything Savage XS

Tried this today, the fan you recommended is about 6mm thicker than the original. How did you refit the casing ?

As I said trim where needed you should end up with a square hole the fan sits in super tight then use a bit of mesh on top .. I'll try find some pics and post them up

Does anyone know if there is good tire masher 2.2 on savage xs? Or is it too heavy?
to be fair I'd steer clear of tires like that, one you'll get side wall flex on hard cornering and two they'll raise the centre of gravity on what's already a quite tip prone little truck and thirdly they'll mess with the gearing due to the extra diameter.. Try to stay reasonably close to the stock size tires and you'll be just fine and it's not like you are short of options, I run dirt hawgs on mine which are great all rounders.. And I ran dirt paws on grass with great results, aj runs hpi ground controls on his I believe and he swears by them..

Second that, especially if you're running the stock ESC. Bigger tyres puts more strain on the ESC which is already on the limit it seems. I have the HPI Ground Assault, and they're superb on most surfaces, although a bit too grippy on tarmac.

I'm going to be getting the Savage XS SS kit instead of converting my Revo 3.3 to electric, these little trucks look like a blast!!

Will all this kit work together:

Castle SV2 Sidewinder ESC

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/castle-sv2-sidewinder-esc/rc-car-products/40107

HPI Flux Vector 4800kv brushless motor, Radio Race Car used this motor in their review of the SS kit and were really pleased with it's performance.

Spektrum digital super high torque metal geared servo

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/spektrum-digital-super-high-torque-metal-geared-servo/rc-car-products/34477

Orion rocket sport 3s 3200mah 11.1v lipo

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/orion-rocket-sport-3s-3200mah-11.1v-lipo-hpi-flux-/rc-car-products/368453

I'm undecided what radio system to use, I might use my Traxxas link TX and RX just to get me going if this will work with all of the above set-up.

Good choice on the Savage Xs but with the above you might as well buy the Savage Flux Rtr.

I wouldnt bother with that Esc it isnt great, same for the motor.

I would go for:

http://www.rcecho.com/HOBBYWING-EZRUN-3656-4700KV-RC-Brushless-Motor-WP-SC8-120A-ESC-Combo-ME180.html

Also I would go for a lipo with a higer Mah and a higher C rating would be even better.

Good Luck.

Thanks.

Got to agree - the SC8 is a perfect match to the XS.

Think I'm going to splash out on some new CVD's and centre cups from Hot Racing soon, as well as fixing the centre transmission gear as it has half a tooth missing. Need to get out running it more too!

Thanks for the advice. Yeah the XS SS seems a much better choice for me than converting my Revo 3.3 but I just can't bring myself to sell it. It's currently split as I am thinking about selling it in parts as it does have a few hop-ups/extras. Thanks the advice on the combo, seems good value. From what I've read 2S lipo's are more than enough, can you recommend me a good lipo to go for? Thanks again

No worries your Welcome :).

Yeah it's a good combo.

As for Lipos I have these:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__17265__Turnigy_nano_tech_6000mah_2S2P_65_130C_Hardcase_Lipo_Pack.html

There's loads on the Hobbyking website though.

I've heard Gens Ace are good as well.

I would aim for 5000mah or higher and no less than 30c.

Thanks.

Ok no problem, thanks again.Sorry just one more question regarding the RX and TX, will I be ok to use my Traxxas Link RX and TX with the motor combo? Eventually I would like to get a stick radio, not so keen on the steering wheel. Just a thought, I still have Traxxas waterproof servo's off my Revo 3.3 which I could also use.

You can use pretty much any radio gear you choose as long as the rx fits in the box which is quite small..

Cool, thank you. The Traxxas rx is quite small so I think it will fit. So all I need to order is the motor combo, use my Traxxas rx/tx and use my waterproof Traxxas servo.

yep provided you have a soldering iron and connectors of your choice..

For inside the front and rear cases (but not the actual diff) pretty much any automotive grease will do just fine. Inside the centre transfer case there isn't much point in adding grease as it all just spins off anyway because of the high speed, although a bit of automotive grease won't hurt. Inside the actual diffs I have just normal diff oil, but I can't remember what weight right now.

I have a soldering iron but no connectors, what are some good connectors to? I take it they will be for the motor/esc?

same as the connectors on your batts, plus heat shrink as well, the esc wires to the motor solder directly on so no bullets required..

Cool, thank you for the info. I've not had to solder anything for a few years so might practice on some old cables first haha.

I'm trying to decide which tyres to go for, it's between the HPI Ground Assault's in D compound or Hot Bodies Powerpins in White compound? I take it shock oil and diff grease are included in the kit?

Is there anything else I'll need to assemble it apart from luck?
