Done to death but here is mine - Savage

Some new parts.

Hellfire red springs

Super Heavy Duty X axles

17mm hex and pins

Flanged lock nuts

17t HD clutch bell

Truck is currently being stripped for a clean, takes 5 minutes to get it to this state. Hours to rebuild it ?

New clutch bell to replace the battered AnswerRc one. Steel spur made mincemeat of it!

20190118_174205.jpg

Main reason for stripping it for a clean is there is metal filings everywhere. Clutch needs a deburr.

I've thought about selling up a few times but I know it wouldn't be long before I came back ?

Looks like you really don't know what you want right now then mate. Heli's are awesome! I had a few, loved em'

Almost done cleaning everything, just engine to go.

Well the sun came out for a bit so took the Savage for a little shakedown after the complete strip and rebuild.

Fired straight up which was a good start. Nice smooth idle and popping on acceleration. Didn't really have much room to stretch it's legs as I stayed in the carpark while my boys drove around the water logged BMX track. So no chance to really get a final ballpark tune or sort gear change.

I got all my linkages sorted so there is clearance for everything, smooth and snaps back the carb slide with no movement while braking. After taking this picture I noticed the rod end wasn't where it was supposed to be ?

Harder springs are holding the weight nicely and it doesn't seem to lurch around as much under acceleration, cornering or braking. Will have to see how it performs on landings.

I was bringing it in after each pass just to check it over and discovered the carb had come loose so I will be removing the sealant from the carb neck and just let the pinch bolt do it's job.

Overall happy and can't wait for better weather to give it a good run.

Wasn't really much to see mate only put half a tank through it before I found the carb trying to escape. I actually have no way of recording, need a cheap action cam don't I!

Well turns out, I am stupid

The pinch bolt is in two half's and only one side is threaded. So pass though the bolt on the un-threaded side and into the threaded side for the pinch bolt to actually pinch! Resealed carb, thread lock applied everywhere that needed it now I am happy with how it ran last time.

Weather looking good for tomorrow and no school for the boys so we will be out for a bash. Hopefully get tune dialed in and actually get into second gear.

I will try and get some footage but my eldest son will have to play cameraman with my phone so could end up with nothing :sweatdrop:

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but you actually did the total opposite of what i did. I had a nice savage with the irc +6 tvps and everything then converted to a super savage with an mgm 16026 and a 1717 lol. No way id ever go back to nitro personally, but its been nice to see the way you did yours. It was actually nicer than mine i think

Picked this roller up from Mo just before xmas. Not had a car in a while and always wanted to try a Savage so here is mine. Came with Alza XL TvP's believe everything else is stock, oh and hex hub mod. Sorry if pics are a little poor, taken on my phone.

Stripped it down, cleaned everything ready to rebuild it.

Over the last couple of months I have been buying parts for it, still waiting on a few bits.

Pulled the Savage from the loft last week. Most of the bolt heads are looking a little sorry for themselves with some surface rust.

Other than that everything seems ok.

Today I put a fresh glow plug in and some fuel that has been sat in the shed for god knows how long and attempted to start it.

Much to my surprise the engine fired up after a handful of pulls! Put half a tank through it just doing circles on the patio and letting it idle.

Damn I've missed that smell :insane:

Will give it a good check over and if it's not to wet on the weekend I'll be taking it out to give it a tune and put a couple of tanks through it.

I was surprised the nitro was still usable more than anything.

Checking it over I noticed one of the engine bolts was a little loose so will red threadlock all of them.
