DannyP
Picked this roller up from Mo just before xmas. Not had a car in a while and always wanted to try a Savage so here is mine. Came with Alza XL TvP's believe everything else is stock, oh and hex hub mod. Sorry if pics are a little poor, taken on my phone. Stripped it down, cleaned everything ready to rebuild it. Over the last couple of months I have been buying parts for it, still waiting on a few bits. Shocks rebuilt with 35wt all round Cleaning, rebuilding and shimming the diffs, 60k front and 30k rear. Ready for some R 'n' T Removed the purple anodizing using oven cleaner and gave the parts a little buff. New bearings and HD servo saver spring. Little grinding on the hinge pins required for the Alza bulkhead braces. Done Also a small boss on the bulkhead Gone That's pretty much it so far. DannyP
looking really shiny now! It won't be for long, sure it will get filthy on its first run Nice, what tyres will you be running? Big Joe 2's on F-11 rims. I am still waiting on a pair of each from MS. They have the tyres but waiting for wheels before they dispatch. DannyP
Want to fill this with 500k oil but it is just going to run out the bottom by the time I am finished. I have an idea, don't know if its going to work?.... Put the spur back on, drop the screws in loose and cover the heads with tape. Flip the diff over and remove the gears ready for filling. Put a little oil in and replace the spider gears, little more and replace last gear and cover. Flip diff, remove tape and tighten screws. Then I can loosen and apply threadlock to each screw individually....? Edited January 14, 2019 by DannyP

Tug
Now that's a diff! Six gears should spread the load nicely!
froggy8
That spider diff is only for cd conversion, is that correct?
DannyP
Yes mate, spider diff is for cd conversion. Front and rear are the flux BP diffs
froggy8
i really like spider diffs and wouldnt mind one for my savage
DannyP
They are nice, seem very solid and gears well made. As Tug said those 6 bevel gears should spread the load on the sun gears. Only thing is, spur gears seem hard to get in steel and the 'lightened' spurs that are available are plastic Can't see them lasting long in high power applications. froggy8
yeah tug already said to me that it is really for speed run, i think that is what he said and that if i do bashing then its not essential
Tug
Centre diffs are ideal for hard straight line acceleration. I'm deeply jealous, I want one of those diffs, they look pretty.
DannyP
Keep an eye on Ebay Tug, there is probably at least one on there now.
shdaxner
What size spur are you after Danny for the spider?
DannyP
I currently have a 52t that came with the diff and a 46t which I got from Wrighty and is fitted now. 52 is a little big and will protrude through the bash plate. 48,47,46 should be ok. You know where to get them?
shdaxner
ahh right OK. I bought my 46 tooth spider spur from RC Willpower in the US as I could not find any others at the time....not sure if 47 and 48s are available though.
DannyP
I will take a look, thanks. I need a spare really.
Wrighty8766
You need some IRC big bores to go with this build Wouldn't be the same without them
