  1. Sorry to read of your friend passing @Mackay9o . Condolences. Best wishes and best of luck getting a group together, ...maybe try Facebook where you can ask some of his local friends/acquaintances and people from the local area. Maybe search for nearby RC car clubs.
  2. Happy New Year one and all. 😉
  3. Same here. My Dad bought it for me for my birthday one year from Beatties probably in 1990. Fantastic fun and very underrated buggy.
  4. Tamiya Avante 2001 please, ....do we PayPal you the cash @.AJ. or is it cash on collection when you get back to the future from the 90's? 😀
  5. I am a speed runner and have tried a couple of speed meters and have experience of others. For any GPS speed meter or device acting as a speed meter you need a fast GPS refresh rate AKA update rate which is measured in Hz and is basically how often the GPS/satellite communicate & calculate positions allowing for measurement. 1Hz = Once per second 1Hz is generally what most mobile phones are capable of so they are not very accurate for speed measurement. Currently I use a Dynamite GPS speed meter which is around £100 new and has a GPS refresh rate of 10Hz. Another couple of cheaper options with high refresh rates include; Sky RC GPS speed meter (model GSM-015) which can be had for around £50 and has an adjustable refresh rate which can be set to a maximum of 10Hz. Garmin Forerunner GPS model 201/301 ~ both of these models AFAIK have GPS refresh rates of 10Hz and can be had second hand for between £40-£100+ on eBay etc. Essentially designed for runners/joggers but work well as RC speed meters. There are some other cycling and running related GPS meters which can be used as speed meters but I've no experience of them or the refresh rates available. FYI if you do go to buy a Sky RC GPS speed meter make sure it is the new GSM-015 model number as the older GSM-010 model only has a refresh rate of 1Hz. Edit: Oh and just to add as the Garmin Forerunner 101 was mentioned that has a GPS refresh rate of 1Hz so again isn't super accurate for RC speed metering although works.
  6. Happy New Year one and all. Here's to 2020.
  7. Looks great so far @Benwilson . Look forward to seeing how it progresses.
  8. Nice. I always prefer petrol models over diesel, ...a friend has a diesel VRS though and is very pleased with it. Tuned they can be made to go very well. 😎
  9. Is it the diesel or petrol VRS then AJ? Thinking of giving my BM a few more tweaks in the new year, ...love modifying my cars, RC scale and full scale.
  10. Yes imho. Both can be dangerous/hazardous but weighing up everything if I had to say one more so than the other then it would be nitro. Still I wouldn't let that put me off owning one if I wanted one (again).
  11. Hope everyone has a fantastic holiday break whatever you get up to.
  12. My BMW M135i, ...3Ltr straight six with a twin scroll single turbo.
  13. Very interesting to watch.
  14. It's so nice to read posts from you guys with most having the same or a similar opinion as mine about Facebook. I didn't want to join Facebook but had to this year so that I could communicate through group chat with the other ROSSA UK members as the ROSSA UK forum is still not up and running. After being on it for only a short period I know it's not the place I want to be on. I said it before that Facebook groups are a never ending, constantly scrolling downwards page of useless pictures (mainly posted for likes/attention) and the same questions that have been asked 10 times already that week. 🙄 Forums are the best way for true enthusiasts to follow any of their hobbies whether it's Rc, fishing, cars etc etc. The layout of a main page with easily understandable sub sections just can't be beaten and with decent staff members like the ones on here & some of the other forums I am on the idiots/trolls/scammers etc etc are swiftly dealt with. Unlike FB where it would seem at times anything goes. Thankfully ROSSA UK are in the process of reinstating a dedicated forum which is hoping to be up and running sometime next year, ...when that happens I'm leaving FB and I can't wait. 😆
  15. I've used the same username across every single forum I've ever joined as well as on my Playstation/gaming accounts. Build up a better rapport with people that way.
  16. Welcome aboard. Recognise you from the Arrma forum.
  17. I'm in to a bit of DIY so to me a good drill has to be up to a lot. Personally I'd only recommend a DeWalt XR brushless 18V model ~ mine has 4.0mAh batteries which is more than enough for hours & hours of drilling but they're also available with lower and higher capacity batteries depending on your needs. Try to avoid the plastic keyless chucks and look only at the metal keyless chucks. You should never need another drill again. For example: http://www.molevalleyfarmers.com/mvf/store/products/dewalt-dcd796d1-xr-18v-brushless-compact-hammer-drill-driver?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI--qLn8Ok5gIVF-DtCh0b1AjHEAQYAyABEgKOF_D_BwE#fo_c=2563&fo_k=f7c9c64a2fdeea23671e338cfa7445ac&fo_s=gplauk?_$ja=tsid:~cid:8192130465~agid:84255926789~tid:pla-841014538466~crid:398921659370~nw:u~rnd:460172285657297623~dvc:c~adp: One thing to note though is that the chuck won't hold 1-1.5mm drill bits or smaller but not often I find myself ever needing to drill holes that small. If I do I'll use my Dremel or a small drill bit holder instead.
  18. The fact it is an 8S powered RC truck I think is great and I would love to see the motor/ESC combo in one the usual 6S model Arrma's or similar to see what it can do. I definitely agree with you that it is underwhelming/disappointing that they didn't release something completely new whether it be a truck, buggy, truggy or whatever. I mean they couldn't even be bothered to think of a new name (much like the Mojave a rehashed old name). 😆 Sad really as I love my Arrma's.
  19. Have had experience of a fair few different brand RC's over the decades and Arrma are my current favourite. Mine are built to go very fast as I speed run with them and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Arrma RC's.
  20. I use those "fire safety" bags myself but tbh they're a waste of time, ...if a Lipo goes up in one of them it will just jet out a solid flame. All they're good for is hopefully giving you a few seconds to disconnect from your charger or throw it clear. I still keep mine in the fire safety bags when charging but have now got an old ammunition can for added safety which I will be using most likely when charging as well as for storage.
  21. Welcome aboard. Great seeing the original Hornet, ...I've a modern re-release one and they're great fun.
  22. Great fun buggy the Hornet. I've the Tamiya re-release and it is great fun although the suspension is terrible for on-road driving so it's definitely happiest at home on sand, gravel or grass etc imho.
  23. Looking at that lot @ChrisT you might as well have built one up from scratch. 😆 Looks like it will be a fun build.
  24. No problem and good luck with the rebuild.
