  1. Firstly, you don't need deep pockets... It depends how you choose to upgrade and how you choose to run. Most need very minimal spends to make them good enough to bash around a bit, the harder you go with them, the more you may need to spend. They couldn't rally be any further apart in RC terms though. I've not driven a DBXL personally, but I've had many Bajas and also Punishers and Losi 5ives. For me, a Baja is more fun, it requires less power and less modificationn/fettling to make it fun, being RWD it's a lot less predictable, slightly more challenging and overall a lot more fun. The DBXL (basing this on my 5ive experience here) is bound to be more predictable, certain slower in stock vs stock form, but that's all some people want. I'm sure AJ and perhaps Jim will be along soon, they're the latest owners I know of the DBXL, and they'll let you know, although AJ's is pretty well hopped up now and I believe Jims running new servos, different pipe and different engine. If I could only have 1 RC for the rest of my life, it'd be a Baja 5B yes they maybe overdone and like an infection, but they're damn good fun

  2. Sorry, i couldnt think of an ingenious title for my thread lol After deciding i wanted an electric model that was easier to take out than the 1/5th baja, I was considering a slash 4x4, but after seeing OHO's build thread, i was hooked on the trailfinder 2 This arrived in the post for me today, its basically been a shelfer all its life so im Looking forward to getting out with it in the near future :-) Its running a pretty basic setup, all stock as it was out of the box, a basic tamiya esc along with a savox steering servo and a futaba 'gear shift' servo controlled by a gt3b tx, Im using an old 4300mah 7.2 nimh pack to power it all along, ive just got an overlander charger as recommended by a few guys off here, so hopefully invest in a few 2s lipos

  8. Pretty certain there was/is a kit around to do it, as I semi researched it awhile back as was offered a cheap bx. Can't recall price though. Combo your prob going to need something along the lines of a 36XX (bigger than 50mm) with say the wp-sc8 120a, about

  10. cheers! It will be even better once ive finished off tomorrow! It was easy enough to convert, just bought a motor mount, changed the gears and away it went with a bit of drilling and fettling! I have got the old nitro engine I could put back in it if I so decide at some point though anyway some stills from the video

  12. Cheers for the reminder Sputnik: Will prob redo the temp esc mount, before taking it to the park for a good rag about, i mean shake down. Hopefully the losi trays won;t take too long from Wheelspin's shadow stock.... Managed to get upto near full whack on the road, def room for swapping the motor with the 2000kv 4274 HW out the ST, will prob make the ST easier to gear when it goes 6S this year too.

  13. I always felt - the turbo piccos were the best running - tune maintaining engines Ive owned from them. consistent performance and temps etc. Ive not run the non turbo .28 - sorry I cant give much info there. The .27's are a kick in the arse - so I imagine the non turbo .28 is a good runner too. Not sure anyone other than the uber pro driver / tuner - could tell much of a performance difference - other than ease of use ... turbo plugs are more $$$ but seem to tune and start and run better [ imho ] ... personally Im going turbo. Thought about buying both types of piston / liners from there and seeing first hand what the diff is ...

  14. Very happy with it I have not tuned anything else tyhat is just the pipe change

  15. Bet your pleased with the ddm pipe it's woke that engine right up sounded a bit asthmatic in vid one..lol

  16. Whilst I do not actually know.....I fully expect the piston and liner to be interchangeable between all of them....the difference between any of the pull/roto/box models that I do know is only the crank... I expect the price difference between the p/l prices for most are just down to different port configurations and timings...examples I do know are plenty... The extra machining costs..

  19. Going to fit mine when i get home, i just wish you could get something that keeps it planted and wont let it wheelie like on the drag cars. Also i believe softening the suspension helps

  20. Ive just read on a UK based picco parts distributor whilst looking for parts for my two P3-28 turbo engines, that the Picco Boost 5TR .28 uses same piston sleeve conrod and wrist pins. Unsure about the crank, but doubt youd need one of them for a rebuild, transplant. I think it was wheelspin models ... it was. http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/84736/ This is a replacement Picco Boost .28 Piston and Sleeve Set, and is intended for use with the Picco Boost 5TR .28 nitro engine, as well as the Picco P3 .28 nitro engine. This set is not intended for use with the Picco .28 Pull-Start version. The pull-start Piston/Sleeve set is part PIC1371. NOTE: You will need to detach the old connecting rod and re-attach it to the new piston during replacement. We recommend that when you replace the piston/sleeve on any engine, you also change the connecting rod and wrist pin clips. Now, you may be able to just get away with a resize / repinch from a quality vendor like RayA Racing ... I will be trying this avenue for several piccos. Cant get older conrods these days ... Perhaps this Schumacher version uses the same conrod as the tubro version? Is the tubo version merely just a different button head - whcih you will already have and can re-use? http://www.rctech.net/forum/offroad-nitro-engine-forum/306760-rayaracing-sleeve-resizing-tooling.html Ive got all but 4 of my picco mills on the bench right now too - rebuilding. Poor storage [ I knew better too ] cost me main bearings on most all of them. The Picco .28 needs a new piston and liner - looks like the wrist pin gave up the ghost and Ive got a nice scar down both P/S on the exhaust port side. Meh ... A-Main hobbies has a block crankcase cheap on a blowout sale - i bought a new head and crank for cheeeeeap. They may have a few left.

  22. You will defo need a wheelie bar mine came today. My first attempt at a full throttle blast on a 3S resulted in a flip and involved it slowing down on its roof

  24. You'll notice a big improvement Baja front tyres seem to do very little IMO, matching tread looks nice really, lol. When the tyres arrive, trim as much of the moulding flash away as possible (curved body trimming scissors/sharp knife blade and tension), then warm the tyres up. They are a tight fit and test hand strength....a teaspoon handle may assist in levering the rear lip over the rims. Be prepared to curse and swear a little too

  25. Note to self.... just because your diff case can accept the f/r diff in either orientation doesn't mean you shouldn't check that the bevel gears aren't on the same side front to back! Combo fitted, test rolls - won't move. Apply motion to spur......front wheels turn in opposite direction to rear Opps. 30 mins later and........she lives! One ought to have counted the diff ratio's because this thing motors on 19/48 with an 1800kv HW combo running 4S.

  28. Allan- The X28 Turbo was basically a Picco .28 Factory Team Turbo but with a roto start crank and of course the different head, both the Turbo and non Turbo are based on the P3....as I expect the newer Picco Boost is too. The non Turbo is still available (as I guess you know) and at a very reasonable price....I noticed the piston/liner are especially cheap on the Schumacher site (23 quid).....the performance difference between Turbo/non are only going to be minimal.....it is a great engine. Schuie link ( http://www.racing-cars.com/sp/category/Old_Cars_and_Parts/subcategory/Fusion_28/templateid/12/searchbox7/Nitro_Motors_and_Parts.html ) Not sure if you will be able to locate a Turbo now as it was a few years ago I remember them being sold off...for around 100 (yes, wish I had bought a few). I understand that you want that particular engine but really there are a ton of great engines out there...the LRP 28 is not the Picco quality but is a stonker...the non Turbo Schuie you have and like...the newer Picco Boost can be had with a roto...for more money the Novarossi 28 can be had with a roto and is madness..

  33. OFNA was importing the picco mills for a long while. We cant get them or parts now here in the states - the con rods are like platinum and 2x as rare ... not sure what youre trying to put that big block in, but perhaps a .30 is the answer from OS ? Good luck. OFNA wont be of any help either.

  34. Doesn't ofna make the picco engines. You could always get the lrp z28r spec 3 for

  35. Great price and you can soon upgrade it with new model parts using dollar hobbies ect. I would keep it short wheelbase tho they are nuts mine did 2wheels, endos and front flips from standard 2.5r engine. The 3.3 is more stable but not as fun. I had much better experience with the 2.5r engine too.

  36. Disassembled the whole truck and cleaned every bit with a toothbrush lol Also sprayed the chassis black so it ties in with the stock plastics. ...some pics of the conversion kit, spur is mahoosive! I've decided that all my rc's are going to have a superhero/villan theme....after all,we are boys with toys lol.... with this one being the first to get the treatment. It's been something I've thought about for a while and will give me an excuse to add more trucks to the fleet lol. So with that in mind I sent the conversion kit and a few other parts of the truck to be anodised, should get them back Friday
