  1. Your judging an entire community by the actions of one member?? Especially after having the Audacity to say this? :- Now whose tarring with that brush?? Personally, i too consider a "deal is a deal" and have traded with many members on here who also think the same way.. Frankly mate, Posting such a general, yet mildly offensive post about the communitys conduct based on an individuals action makes you a classic Forum Troll... Look in the mirror a little before judging "Us"

  2. Can't see a single report of the transaction, nor have I received a PM about any deal or seller. How are we supposed to help and deal with things if we're not informed of the situation?

  3. Bought Deans as they came out most popular on a recent poll... Horrible things! Difficult to solder if you're new to it, and tricky to separate. I bought EC5 (the EC3 bigger brother) and they are simplicity itself to solder. Loads of youtube vids showing you the easy way.

  6. I ordered from them quite often in the past as they often stocked parts MS didn't, however lately lots of people have been having problems with them. I would stay away from them for now...

  7. I have a feeling you have been somewhat unlucky, and very lucky on other sites. What types are these other sites? Not imagine many people being sad enough to steal stamps from a stamp collector Irrespective of the forum style, if it is even remotely related to a mainstream subject, then it will attract people. you just have to go about reacting to it properly. At least you didnlt end up paying for the item and then not receiving it, or receiving it in a completely different state to what it was described as.

  8. I think instead of slating all of us, therefore 'tarring us etc', you would of been better off either naming and shaming or reporting the offender to a mod. A deal is a deal, no question, the mods might not be able to get you the item you were promised, but they might have warned the offender and saved someone else the disappointment of dealing with him or her.

  9. carbon will just snap, if it were me i'd either double up or go for the 5mm ones. cf is really only good for places where low weight and not a lot of shock is taken

  11. when you set your failsafe up, if it says set it with the throttle at neutral, set it with the brakes applied. i tried to roll my revo out of the way of my toolbox with the engine running and it slowly picked up speed and took off. i ended up chasing it all the way across a field and then had to rugby tackle it.

  13. Hardly. Even when I was growing up, it used to be kids would spend at least as long talking about what they got last christmas than what they were hoping for in the coming year. As Tamiya Cowboy said, nowadays its even more geared toward 5 minute fashions and gadgets. All of which will be forgetten about in a years time, funnily enough just in time for christmas again. Of course this happened before, but it was maybe a few popular stocking fillers, not to the scale of £xxx though. I started seeing advent calendars at the end of september, and shops are already selling mince pies etc that will be out of date by mid November. As for me, I expressly avoided asking for anything this year. If people want to get me things they think I will appreciate, I'll be greatful for them, but I certainly wont be begging anyone to buy me something I want because "it's the season". But I guess that's me being "a grumpy fart".

  14. I'm still surprised manufacturers / distributors don't send images of the products they're selling through Modelsport to the shop so they can use them. Some do, some don't. I'm sure there must be plenty of people who've not bought something they might have but didn't becuase they couldn't see if it was the right thing or not.

  15. No worries! Thats what forums are for mate, Asking questions, and most will be happy to help with any questions you may have. The 1/16 Revo is a good choice of car for a young newcomer, (sounds like hes already made that decision for you.) its small enough to be 10 yr old friendly, has excellent spares and hop up support, parts are relatively cheap too, admitedly its not the easiest car to strip, but will likely be a learning experience for you too. The XL2.5 Version has a brushed ESC and motor, and a 27MHz radio system, thats its only real difference with the VXL. The VXL will have more torque and speed, and will be working more efficiently and may likely have a slightly better runtime. Brushed and Brushless are worlds apart in terms of everything. My experience of traxxas brushed systems however, is their motors dont last that long before the internal cooling fans melt of performance drops due to the brushes and commutor wearing. The VXL motors are excellent and almost maintenance free, the ESC's are average, but by no means poor. They also cog very little compared to some cheaper systems like the EZrun. Also, the Traxxas Link 2.4GHz radio is actually a nice bit of kit, and will work far more glitch free than any 27MHz kit. Not to mention you wont have a 10" Aerial sticking out the car or wont have to worry about interference if you ever go to bash with other RC'ers. For an extra £100 i would say the VXL is worth the extra as doing said upgrades at a later date will cost you more than £100 As its his, and your first car, i would advise on buying new to be honest. Firstly, theres something about "new toys" to a 10 year old on Xmas, Secondly, Warrenty may be important if your not too used to this sort of thing. Also, Buying second hand is an excellent way to get a good car with many hop-ups for less than new price, but cosmetic reasons aside, there can often be little things that need sorting that may be difficult to diagnose as a newcomer, or dissapointing to your little boy on the big day.. As for batterys, i would stick to NiMh (like the included pack) for a while until your up to scratch with the technology, and your boy becomes a competant driver, as with LiPo's it will be insanely fast, and lipo's require a little respect and knowlege to look after properly. I would reccomend getting a decent fast charger however, as included trickle chargers are awfull.. Ultimately, whatever you decide, there are many many helpfull and knoledgeable members here who will be happy to help, and dont worry, there are no stupid questions, we were all novices once.

  17. With LiPo chemistry cells there is an extremely thin polymer that separates the Cathode and Anode. If this separator splits due to the cells swelling then you will have a dead short inside the pack. What happens after this dead short really depends on a few things like how much energy (charge) the cells have, where they are and luck. At best you will have a lot of heat and smoke (the smoke of which is HIGHLY corrosive) at worst you will have a fire. There is no hard and fast rule for how much the pack can swell before this separator splits, i've seen 1 pack at the flying club swell to almost twice it's size and the bloke is still using 6 months on. I've also seen a pack swell only a few mm and go up in flames. So it's really 100% your choice and decision on if you want to continue using it or not. If you do i would mark it up and treat it like an egg till you dispose of it, as the separator will no doubt have been severally weakened and and something as simple as strapping it down or it banging about in the boot of your car could cause it to fail. With regards to why it failed, 100% agree with the previous posters. The cell has had more current drawn out of it than it can comfortably give, so it's swelled. I certainly would not use that cell for that application again, as if it swells again the chances of a fire will go up dramatically. another thing worth mentioning is that, if the pack has been stored fully charged this dramatically reduces it's C rating. So you could easily have a pack that's worked fine for 6 months, but each day it's stored fully charged it's ability to give current is reduced (C rating) to the point where it can no longer supply the needed amount of power. That will not get better only worse, so using it for the same application will only cause exactly the same thing again. Personally i'd stick a lamp on the terminals, leave it outside in a bucket of sand for a couple of days (well away from anything flammable) then take it to your local recycling centre to dispose of it. But for me seeing a £500+ RC car burn for the sake of a £30 battery doesn't warrant the risk. Cheers Mark

  18. This man has the correct idea. christmas these days does not have a meaning. you ask a child what christmas is and 9/10 the reply is " gifts/money/presents ". Its now early october, and by mid october we will start seeing the christmas tv adverts, it is all a farce now. parents did not ask you what you wanted, they already knew what you wanted, a bike, some cars, a trainset or snow sled. these days its Iphones, computers, consoles, mobilephones, the latest in shoe wear etc etc, large amounts of money and debt for others.
