The AWG rating is the size of the conductor. So your right, you can have 2 cables with the same AWG , but one might look fatter than the other. Aterlatus Posted July 11, 2009 Share Posted July 11, 2009 Just had a gander round a few places, and 14AWG is commonplace for electrical installations in the US at 15A (at 120V that's a max of 1800W).
