What would be wanted for an off road RC circuit

300bhp/ton

I'm hoping to have the opportunity to build an outdoor RC circuit next year. Curious on what elements/designs people would like to see on a dirt/grass circuit?

Such as big jumps, small jumps, banked corners. What kind of track barrier, lap length and other obstacles. Please post up ideas and suggestions.

Assuming this is for 1/10th or 1/8th racing, here's a few things.

Everyone will like:

  • Good drainage, can't race with standing water on the track.
  • flexible plastic piping makes good barriers.
  • If grass the track needs to be mowable.
  • Minimum 20sec laptime.
  • Good and safe marshall positions.
  • Decent length straight.
  • Minimum 2m width, preferably 2.5m in most places.

Personal opinions:

  • Personally I think tracks shouldn't have any minimum speed jumps. You should be able to complete a 1/10th track with a brushed motor tamiya buggy as an example.
  • I prefer lumpy/bumpy surfaces rather than putting green smooth.
  • Big jumps are fun but make them "easy", like a table top .
  • Have some portion of the lap as flat ground to give room for overtaking.
  • Good mix of fast and slow corners, sometimes its better to have a track with more flow than lots of hairpins to fill the space.

The BRCA and other organisations do publish guides on this sort of thing if you want to start an organised club.
