Hi guys and girls, is there any major difference between the optifuel 25% RTR and there optifuels 25% racefuel? Can only get the racefuel an not the RTR stuff so jus wondering if there any real difference and would it matter if I run a 5l drum and then switch back to RTR stuf, any help would be amazing

Yes. There is a noticable  difference.

The RTR has a much higher oil content than the race, mainly as it is designed to cater for folks who may tune the motor badly, where the extra oil gives a margin for lean tunes. Probably helps engine life too..... but a study I read basically said on a correctly tuned motor, excess oil does nothing except make smoke, hide the true state of tune...and the car.....in a smokescreen a WW2 Destroyer would be proud of.

I think the race blend is about 9% oil...the RTR 16% oil. As the nitro % is the same....it means less methanol, so technically a bit less power as the total fuel component is less in RTR.

Ah okies, do u think it will hurt the motor to run? I only got 2.5L as didn't want to run too much as I think my tunes off ATM but still want to run it.

Won't hurt it in any way ..... but don;t expect it to run the same. You will need to tweak the needles....but the first thing you will notice is the much lower level of smoke.

Tuned correctly, you will still see a smoke trail, but it will be a haze not a thick fog.

If you have a temp gauge, I would advise using it while you get used to the race blend fuel, so you know your tune is on point while you get used to the new blend. If you don;t have a temp gun, its worth getting one. Don;t buy an RC branded one though, any IR thermometer will work fine, just as long as it covers the 60c  -140c range. which works for both nitro and electric motor 'good' temps. An RC branded one will cost about twice the price of a generic one, and can be had for about £10 off E-Bay.

Then....stick with the race blend if you can. Its a better fuel. I switched to it when I got fed up of paying a fortune for a smaller bottle of Byrons, and got really good results from this. Both are sold in 'gallon' containers....but Byrons is a US gallon...so nearly a litre less for the same price.

Ah ok buddy, ran a few tanks through it today an thought I goosed the engine jus as I got the tune spot on.. turned out to be the glow plug so swapped it out for my OS #8 and had some crazy speeds out of it 🤠 as for the smoke it wasn't quite as dense as the RTR fuel and smelled a bit sweeter than normal but still had a nice puff comin from the exhaust lol.  we use a cheap temp gun and the engine got upto 58.2°c on my pro 21 an brother in law had his hpi 5.9 at 93.7°c not sure why they were soo different but my little Frankenstein build is soo much faster than his, but I am usin a 18t bell an he's on a 14t with a 56t center diff, not sure what my center is but not as big as his tho, he had slightly better acceleration but as soon as my revs were up it caught him and outran him lol an that was with a blown glow plug, gona go back out Thursday weather permitting and try again with a decent glow plug and try and outrun him from the get go lol

I remember when I first got into nitro all them years ago and they used to say that beginners should keep to 15%, Sometimes even 10%, As the higher oil content helped the engine if you had a bad tune, Problem was you had such a small nitro content that getting any sort of good tune was a ball ache, 25% forever more.

The OS8 is a good plug and we used em in our engines from 12 to 50 size :good:

Yup been the best one IV used so far, the one that blew was a #3 so mega hot by the looks of it, IV ordered another 8 and a 10 for the summer lol
