thewootts
I have just purchased a FTX DR8 1/8 Desert Buggy. I couldn't find a thread knocking around anywhere so thought id start one . Knowledge is power and any information shared good or bad is knowledge . Here is a link to the official FTX DR8 web site for spare parts https://ftx-rc.com/index.php?_route_=ftx-spares-parts/ftx-dr9-spares
thewootts
Whilst i've had a few different cars over the years this is the biggest and fastest. Currently running 6s. Took it out for a few passes out in the road earlier and the writing was on the wall for what happened. Slight altercation with the kerb. I wasn't expecting reverse to be as aggressive as it was and I snapped the rear bottom arm pin mount, that is mounted to the back of the diff housing🙄 . so, the part in question comes as a set is on backorder everywhere . It must be common bit to break. Ftx9506 After a bit of digging around I found that this buggy is also sold under the brand name Reely and FS racing Reely Raptor (couldn't find a Reely web page) FS Atom 6s http://www.fs-racingart.com/detail.php?pid=2132 The Reely part number for these suspension pin mounting blocks is Reely 312024C https://www.conrad.com/p/reely-312024c-spare-part-wishbone-bracket-1408910 The FS racing part number is 312024 https://www.aliexpress.com/i/33047701146.html A little more digging and I found a german engineer that is making these parts out of billet aluminium https://www.pos-modellbau.de/shop/alu-tuning/reely/ Hopefully This will help somebody out! thewootts
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4593001 I have just created a 3D printible version of the part , whilst i am waiting for my metal replacement. Cad is not a forte of mine as you can see, but the part is functional. I originally pinned the broken part with some spare hex pins and some epoxy but the torque just twisted it apart straight away. thewootts
Had my first mechanical failure other than the maiden voyage kerb encounter. I have been using this car loads, 90% of the time its been on a wet salty beach. I always give it a wash off with a hose when I get home. however today I lost drive on the rear and it sounded pretty terminal! After removing the rear diff housing both rear diff carrier bearing s had collapsed. 😫 I Pleasantly surprised it was just a couple of bearings. Its clear to see some Sh@t has gotten in the diff housing has to be between the diff and chassis plate, exactly like the Arrma chassis. Although I don't have a picture here when I opened the diff it was dry as a bone... no oil at oil. I thought they felt quite open! I will be checking the other two later. Side by side with my mates Arrma Typhon 6s, these chassis are identical. At some stage I will be stealing the typhon and figuring out what parts are interchangeable. Making possible upgrading parts more likely.

mydoddy69
The rear lower suspension mount that every body continuously breaks has an upgrade via FTX now in both red and blue https://www.modelsport.co.uk/ftx-dr8-rear-aluminium-lower-cnc-suspension-mount-blue-/rc-car-products/1332939 https://www.modelsport.co.uk/ftx-dr8-rear-aluminium-lower-cnc-suspension-mount-red-/rc-car-products/1332940 There’s also a matching front https://www.modelsport.co.uk/ftx-dr8-rear-fr-aluminium-lower-cnc-suspension-mount-blue-/rc-car-products/1332941 other than those parts the trucks pretty much sorted from what I read 👍

That looks like an aluminium chassis brace, what vehicle is that from? Love the paint job!! It seems the Mojave wheels are a popular upgrade. I did it with mine also. marked improvement over the stock wheels. Edited March 21, 2021 by thewootts
thewootts
current state of my DR8. The Arrma wheels are a new edition, only one run old. I lost the poor driver trying to clear a road gap. I recognise a few users names from comments on my youtube vidz. Hello! This car has been abused since I rebuilt it. It has soaked up everything. super stoked about that!! It now has some extra free-play in the arms and hubs now so I might refresh it for the spring. thewootts
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXxaU-ZWaok Reely do a buggy based on the same chassis...looks great fun also!! Here is the part number for the shock tower wing mount. it should fit the DR8 for those of you wanting a decent place to mount a wing. Only problem is the shipping cost. i have had a look but cant find it cheaper anywhere else. https://www.conrad.com/p/reely-312037c-spare-part-rear-wing-mount-1408912 Edited March 21, 2021 by thewootts

SWF
Thinking of getting a solid buggy for grass and dirt hammering, not huge jumps or sending. Considered a Lasernut for a while but they appear a little too fragile? I want something that can be used a few times between servicing, so it’s more available than broken. Back in my nitro days, the Hyper 7 PBS I had suffered the occasional bent chassis plate but the rest held up well. That’s what I’m after. These appear to fit the bill, but how have these been on reliability? It looks like most have broken a rear hinge pin brace but what, if anything else? The Tomley RC video for this buggy is like what I have planned. Cheers Steve
thewootts
Hi mate, other the the hinge pin brace it's a well solid car. Definitely order a metal replacement and put it straight on . Mine has taken some pretty hard hits. It just keeps going. I've changed my bearings to rubber seal, however they are all one size throughout the whole car so that's an easy job. I also made a gasket between the diff houses and chassis to prevent water ingress. Arrma vehicles also suffer with that issue. But as far as reliability goes it's been great!! well impressed!
caddyladdy
Hello, my name is Ruud, im from the Netherlands . I have the reely raptor for a year now and i must say, its pretty solid, unfortunately there are not much aluminium parts. So i orderd this, https://m.nl.aliexpress.com/i/32215039954.html and with a little creativity it fits great. I think that way there will be a lot of parts can be found. Sorry for my bad writing Edited March 31, 2021 by caddyladdy

Sorry for my bad writing The 1/8 zd pirates metal rear hubs should also fit the DR8 I 3d printed a cloned version of the zd hub to check it and they are identical. I've ordered a set of the aluminium zd hubs. I'll upload some pics when they arrive... May be a small delay if they are coming via the suez cannel 😉

Popular Post caddyladdy
After a big jump the car landed on one wheel, that way the rear shocktower bended that much that the drive shaft came of. The original tower got a lot of holes to make it as light as possible, at least i think thats the reason. So i made a new one by myself, without holes just massive . I made it in shape of the original but thats unnecessary, only around the gearbox must it fit perfect
