Moving on from my first scale crawler build, I picked up this kit & some upgrades from the “For Sale” section of this forum.

There are some “other bits” on the way (hopefully this week) but I’ll dive in anyway.

So, I was a bit premature on the build as I’m still waiting on a couple of final bits to start the build. They’re more of a “nice to have” thing rather than a “need them to start the build” thing. I’ve just paid a customs charge for bits I ordered from Amain, so they will land on Thursday.

In the meantime - and in the spirit of providing info that may well bore the pants off you - I thought I’d give you a list of what’s going into the build.

Still thinking about lights and maybe a light bar. Might be nice to get some rock lights too. Have been in touch with MyTrickRC about a light set as I like the look of their stuff ie. nice & bright!

 

I saw some “Husky Link” hi-clearance suspension links & steering links on the Club5 website which look good too. Thoughts about that would be appreciated.

 

Had a nice idea about the paint job for the bodyshell too, but I’ll leave the reveal on that once it’s painted.

Looking at what I’ll have left over with the upgrade parts, it’s got me thinking that I could start a second (third) build. But I’d still need to buy chassis rails, transmission, links, diff & pinion gears, drive shafts...🤔... but there’s that nice Axial ‘67 Chevy C10 body... I wonder if it’ll fit the Enduro chassis... all I can hear is the sound of a cash register ker-ching-ching-chinging 😂

It does fit.........as seen here on an Enduro rtr

 

Although, it has been moved onto my TRX4 Sport this week........

Finally got the last pieces for this build. So off we go!

 

Those Team KNK people certainly know how to package their product. Appeals to my OCD nature!

 

 

The grey pieces are the Enduro hard plastic parts, plus the Bowhouse low cg battery tray. All went together very nicely. I like the contrast of the s/s screws against the black too.

 

 

 

Here’s a closeup of those Samix shock towers. Very nicely machined.

 

 

 

And the final bit for today was the Savox servo installation. Used a couple of cable ties to route the cable to the receiver box. Boy do these servos come with a long cable!

You’d have thought those hard plastic parts would come with the kit version. Shock hoops look good quality 👍

I'm sure I saw the kit description saying it came with the hard towers and braces when I was looking at a potential purchase. Just checked, its not in the description now - revised spec maybe?

“Value engineered” maybe? Still a nice kit though and as I’ve said earlier, lots of spare bits for another build.

Been fiddling around with the Sendero body shell, waiting for a few more bits to arrive - which they did today, so on with the chassis build.

 

Some brass diff covers and 8mm brass wheel hex from Club5Racing were added to the hard plastic axle housings, together with SSD brass knuckles.

 

 

 

 

All went together nicely, adding a bit of weight low down to keep this build (hopefully) planted.

 

Then on to the Club5 high clearance links and steering links. The links come with nickel plated brass hollow balls, which is nice. Only had time to do the front links. I’ll get the rear links and build the shocks tomorrow.

Hi, are the high clearence links on the correct way around?

I've bought the same, but read on the RC crawler forum that the club5 pictures have them on the wrong way round. Apparently the bends should be towards the axles...

Had a lot of fun finishing my chassis build today. Here’s a few photos.

 

Rear high clearance links. These Club5 links are nice and solid and are well finished.

 

 

Here’s the high clearance links before fitting the shocks.

 

 

My OCD is in full force here. While it seems shock building isn’t high on some people’s list of enjoyable parts of this hobby, I’ll have to admit that it is for me. Must be all the small parts coming together.

These shocks are really nice (in my limited experience) and feel lovely and smooth. Needed a spacer at the top - which you get with the Samix shock towers. I also added some SSD rear axle weights to balance out the heavy SSD knuckles on the front.

 

 

 

 

Wheels on - RC4WD beadlocks with Proline Hyrax tyres - and CCHand “Rhinoguard” front and rear bumpers courtesy of Club5Racing finish the job of the chassis build.

 

 

 

 

So, onto painting the body and adding lights and a servo winch once they arrive in the post.

It’s coming together nicely but I think Jim has got a point - those links do seem to be the wrong way round - I think the kink should be at the axle end for max clearance.  

It’s a cracking looking rig though 👍

Looks great, will be interested to see how you get on with the Ali shock mounts, Am thinking of replacing mine and want to lower the chassis a little, can you get the chassis any lower with the Samix hoops?

There are a couple of mounting positions on the Samix hoops that allow for an angled shock mounting position, so would that bring the chassis level down a little?

Been beavering away with the body shell today. Was so engrossed I didn’t take any photos during the process. There are still a few things to do though, so I’ll make sure I take some photos tomorrow.

Pretty much finished now. Here’s some pics

 

Went with Tamiya Black & Racing Green finished with Flat Clear. Found some nice 3D printer files for fenders & door plates, finished in Satin Black. Installed the Club5 Chase Rack on the bed too, so the shell is nice & solid.

 

 

 

 

Installed the MyTrickRC Enduro light set and 5” light bar.
 

 

 

And here’s the finished rig with a little bench flex next to the SCX10 II.

 

 

 

 

Will be installing a servo winch, inner fenders and possibly some rock lights in the future.
