Associated - where does the name come from?

Where does a name like Associated come from? What does it mean? What is associated with what?

Team Associated is just as bad. What is the Team Associated with?

They started as in 1965 as associated electronics (they made electronic equipment for the slot car industry)

After the two founders fell out, and one was bought out, the other one continued to pursue the associated brand by manufacturing Rc cars.

The first they released was a huge hit on the Rc racing scene, and so they started their own race team..... Hence team associated.

Just like team losi or team kyosho

Info from Google

I loved learning about how rc got started and proud Britain was in the thick of it. With Schumacher later but mardave almost from the very beginning. How they just sold you a box with instructions on how to fabricate the parts yourself lol. They just include some specialist parts.

We might go back to those days soon with 3d printers?

When the company was founded, the two founders were associated with each other via a business arrangement, hence Associated Electronics.

Oh ok, that’s not particularly exciting.

It’s like calling a business ‘Partners’, because there maybe business partners. Pretty lame really but each to their own.

I think many companies have literal translations in their brand name

What would you call your rc company? ......

It gets a little tricky when you actually try to think of one off the cuff.....its the kinda thing that...the more thought and effort you give it....the harder it becomes...:sweeeet:

I agree. It wouldn't stop me buying one and I am no way suggesting that the company is not half decent just because of the name...although I might think twice about buying one if it was called a 'glitter turd', lol.

If I ever set up a RC company I will let you know what I would call it.

It's lame to you, but meant everything to them. What's in a name? Turns out they did quite well out of it:lol:

It must have meant the world to them if they wanted to use that to name their company.

What's in a name? Well I don't think it matters much as I don't believe in judging a good company by what its called, I'm sure you would agree.

I think it's also got something to do with AP Racing who make clutches and brakes for full size race cars. Certainly the original AE logo looks very similar to the logo AP were using at the time, a logo seen on lots of race cars.
