If you're planning on just running 2s (I assume you are with that ESC) then it maybe wise to go up a little bit in pinion... 13t for me was a bit slow and didn't have the necessary 'bursts' of wheelspeed that's sometimes needed to hop up or over things.

Just a thought, but when I ran on 2s I had a 21t in there which I found to be perfect for me.

Although it really depends what you'll be doing with it but judging by the weights, you're not trailing lol, so thought I'd share my 2p :good:

Being the phase 1 SCX10 it comes with the problem where it uses tiny grub screws that don't go all the way through the drive output shafts. They just pinch on and keep coming loose. I'ver ordered threadlock and if that doesn't solve it, i'll drive a hole right though them and use longer grub screws.

It held together today however and had a fair bit of fun and tried to get some nice pictures

I got the driveshafts on nice and tight now and took it out another run to an area with some rougher terrain and rocks. The current 27t Tamiya Dirt Tuned motor is geared super low so wheel speed is perfect but it struggled a little low down torque on the really bad parts. Remained cool though which was great.

Had a little curious Robin pay me a visit as well during my run

Video of it in action as well.

Tbh it would need either some super grippy tyres, better driving skills, 2.2s or similar to make the most of that area but it's still pretty good.

Lots happening with it since the last update.

I wanted to play around with some different motors and other parts i had.
I fitted some 100mm alloy shocks and my old Tamiya Double Blaze wheels with M2 Proline Masher 2000 tyres (no weights)

I tried some different 550 sized motors i had to see if they were up to much

Great Planes ElectriFly T-600 - 22 turn / 87/18 gearing
FTX Vantage - 15 turn / 87/13 gearing

Couple of other upgrades were done recently.
Some 90mm black alloy shocks with 15 weight oil.
Turnigy 1501 servo with DIY waterproofing
Wild Boar driveshafts
Alloy centre plate
Alloy gearbox housing

I recommend you don't put as much grease in as this. For the first hour or so of driving the servo was really slow and terrible from all the added friction, but it's fine now

I went to a nearby meet as well with a club for Scotland. We've pretty limited numbers over here so was awesome to be out with some new people getting ideas and stuff.

Quite a bit been happening recently.

The plastidip coating i had on everything was letting moisture in and i wasn't fully happy with the Turnigy servo.

So Hobbywing 1080 for the ESC, and a nice Power HD 20KG servo that's been waterproofed (although didn't need it)

Few other goodies / changes along with about 50% of the truck replaced with new stuff.

Running 3s now

More pics later

Thanks!

I used to run them on my Tamiya Double Blaze.

It's a shame they're not the sticker M3 compound or i could have put in some nicer foams and used them for crawling properly but they've aged a bit and not as grippy as they used to be.

Quite right! I've a Wheely King from years ago i'm going to use as a Monster Truck style basher once i extend the chassis but a faster motor and bouncy 2.2's make the truck a lot of fun on the dirt

Some more progress recently.

The old Turnigy servo was swapped for a Power HD 20KG and running it at 6v with the Hobbywing 1080 now. I've fitted Deans to it and moved my receiver to a small waterproof box i made up.

21t GoolRC motor now does the powering on 3s and 13/87 gearing.

Drives pretty good. In fact done about 5 miles up a steep muddy and rocky hill over 6 hours last week on one 5000mah 3s! 1200feet

1 hour ago, Geeze said:

Looking good, gotta love a honcho :D

Can't wait for the last of my parts to arrive so that I can get mine back out now

Thanks man! I've kept it looking fairly standard from the outside, but it's a pretty capable trail rig now so i'll maybe do a few things with it to make it a bit more scale looking.
This was out of use for almost 5 years and loving having it out again

Decided to swap out my 21t motor for a 65t instead on the same low 13/87 gearing
Put on my cheap Axial replica wheels and my Xtra Speed tyres as well to test.
Happy with this set up for more scale driving
