Quick build for back garden use?

Recommended Posts

All this DIY-ing, redoing new house from top to bottom, and lack of time for RC building is getting to me so thinking of a fairly simple and quick build that also won't be too expensive. Have short-listed the following little 4WD kits, which while not exactly the most capable off-roaders, should be up to tackling the back garden or indoors.

Thoughts???

Well the top CC01 has a lowering kit on it so it has about 20mm les ground clearance less than a normal CC01. How much more is a normal CC01? Or is that too "offroad" for you?

The MF01X seems more like a TA02 rally car in terms of what it'll do, especially the Jimny. From looking on google the MF01X seems pretty capable and the rally blocks on the Jimny are unbelieveably grippy on tarmac and grass if thats what your gardens like? Patio/paving and grass/astroturf?

£83 for the Jimny, no brainer really....

Hard to say no to the Jimny at that price. Set of bearings and paint are all I'd have to spend extra on it.

Now the big question is what colour? Metalic blue or red perhaps?  ;)

I was very impressed with my little MF-01X Jimny. I found it compared very favourably with a stock CC-01 in terms of offroad ability, great for garden and trail use.

I built it pretty much stock, only adding oil shocks, bearings, a steel pinion, 55t motor and long ball studs at the back for symmetrical droop. I also locked the rear diff and slowed the front one with AW grease.

And I think it looks great in black!

I used Super Mini CVAs on mine, no spacers up front, a small internal spacer at the back. The rear dogbones are pretty much at their limit in terms of angle, so anything longer at the back and they would be in danger of popping out - you'd probably want to consider universals if trying for more downtravel.

Jimny kit with bearings and black paint ordered.  :36_11_12[1]:

Always enjoy building a Tamiya kit. Looking forward to this little build. It's not that I haven't got plenty of other projects in the pipeline to build but nothing simple like this. And yes before anyone mentions it I will be getting back to the Armortek Tiger 1 in a month or two. :whistling:
