I rekindled my love for RC cars recently and have built a Cougar KR (brushed, I'm not rich) and a Kyosho Sandmaster that I race on tidal sands when the tide is out. I really can't find enough information on the web about it as Tamiya's site offers nothing more than just a picture. I am running 6 cell batteries and don't know if they will fit. I have a set of controls and a receiver (Schuey code sport) but don't yet have the ESC or battery? Will my regular batteries fit? do I need a specialist ESC? Noj Posted August 1, 2015 Share Posted August 1, 2015 1/12 scale. Normal sized batteries etc will not fit. Tamiya designed them to take their all in one ESC/RX unit, with a small servo. Been discontinued for some time now, spares are available from tamico.de You may have to do some soldering of connectors to match ESC to batteries. Not a wise purchase tbh... Noj Posted August 2, 2015 Share Posted August 2, 2015 Yes in answer to your above questions I've got four Tamtech cars...two mini Foxes and a pair of Porsches...never run 'em though, purely for display Have a look at the Traxxas 1/16th scale NiMH packs :http://www.modelsport.co.uk/traxxas-7.2v-nimh-stick-power-series-1/rc-car-products/388493. They may fit OK, tho were it me, I'd wait til the model arrives and you can measure available space. Might wish to consider a micro brushless set up, as you can get very compact lipos... I'm pretty sure I can fit a normal ESC in there and I have ordered this as well as this. So I am pretty sure I have the servo covered. The car just arrived now, and I got to speak with Colin at Tamiya UK and he says that I will definitely get it running. Modelsport do small batteries (still don't know the exact size need to look over the kit) but yeah, the only issue is going to be the servo and I'm pretty sure it will be the micro servo that ends up fitting. Looking at the instructions the monopolised Tamiya servo slides in on two sets of tabs and there are no screws. So, I will probably have to Dremel off the mounting part of the micro servo and stick it in with double sided foam. Colour scheme.. I want the car to be metallic brown and the wheels gold. Either that or metallic orange and gold, depending on availability of the paints. I won't be painting it for at least a couple of weeks though as I am a bit busy now. JohnCoffey Posted August 4, 2015 Author Share Posted August 4, 2015 It's a fast charger with five settings Nitro, so I will just use the lowest one Build time. Gearbox and clutch assembly. Chassis. That was from an hour last night. Moving on.. Motor fitted. Covers fitted. Back strut and suspension holder built. Then fitted to the chassis. And then gearbox mounted And now for what I want it to look like. Remember that Porsche brown they used on the 928 was it? this one. I know it's supposed to be red and changing that is going to be a sod (the wheels are silver right now too) but that is my dream car so that's what I want. And fitted the motor guard etc. And then assembled the steering rack.
