Paco
If my brushless motor over heats will that make esc shut down , hpi truggy flux
Tamiyacowboy
Possible the esc has a thermal regulation, ie if the esc see's its getting to hot it starts the limit current flow so it can cool down. Whats happening Paco ? are you seeing huge temps on the motor but the esc and battery feel cool ? or are you seeing huge temps on both esc and motor ? usually a Hot motor-esc-battery means the gearing needs to be adjusted as motors working to hard
capri-boy
Tami has it - iirc hot motor, cool esc + batts generally means your undergeared - bigger pinion / smaller spur needed Hot motor + hot esc = overgeared - smaller pinion / bigger spur needed. Will it make the esc shut down? Yes possibly when it overloads and puffs the magic smoke of death.

Tug
If you're running a sensored system, then it's possible to have the power shutdown on motor overheat. The HW combos have this feature, they use part of the sensor cable to connect a stat in the motor to the ESC. Then the ESC can monitor motor temps as well as ESC temps. What system are you running? Rc-Bfg
I get the same my motor and esc are getting hot shutting car down. I belive from the lad i bought it of that i may need to gear it diffrent. But then thats the next head ache for me learning gearing
Noj
Driving style, surface, ambient temperature, wheel size, gearing all affect temperatures. Mashing full throttle continually and doing, in effect, speed run after speed run will quickly generate heat. Max 10 second full trigger bursts, avoid the speed runs and allow the kit to cool a little during use....that's 'normal' bashing. In general terms, two tooth increments on the pinny, lower teeth = lower speed and vice versa. It isn't a headache for anyone. Buy an I/r temp gun and check temps regularly, until you know the gearing suits your driving style, then leave as is.
