Gwigga
Just a thread detail my purchase of a second hand savage x. First things first engine has base settings rest but stalling on throttle have read the needles are probably a little rich, need to spend some time when its not raining. Idles fine, drives on a very light throttle very slowly anymore than that and it stalls. Loads of fuel coming out of exhaust. Just ordered an Abisma CR3P tx/rx as the radio gear with it was old style stick tx running crystals. Pictures to follow
almighty15
You'll need a new fuel tank on it too from OFNA

Gwigga
Impossible to properly tune a Savage on the stock tank. But what's the mod etc and where do I get one? What does it do etc
Nitroholic
Impossible to properly tune a Savage on the stock tank. No it isn't. You just can't get it 'perfect' as you have to tune to an average This is referring to 'mid tank lean' issues, and I would advise the OP looking up the issue and the problems if and when you get them. This happens due to the change in shape of the tank part way down causing a pressure change in the fuel supply. Fitting a different shape tank avoids the issue. Some never notice the problem at all, and if you don't....don't worry With my Savage, I have done the mid-tank mod and relocated the tank to a better protected position. I fitted a different tank when I did that as the stock one didn't leave room for the battery pack and RX where I wanted.
almighty15
No it isn't. You just can't get it 'perfect' as you have to tune to an average So you can't tune it properly then... as I said
Nitroholic
But with an 'average' tune, the car will run fine and be perfectly acceptable to most users. If someone isn't that fussed, then I tend not to give blanket advice around buying and fitting a complete new non standard fuel tank. If someone posts that they are experiencing difficulty tuning their Savage, or describe conditions that sound like mid tank lean...then I give different advice, because it fits the users question and situation. It saves encouraging people to spend money they may not have on things they may not need. Just my opinion

Ian w
I have found the Ofna tank is not good as there is a problem fitting it and it may just interfear with the rear shocker. I have found there are 2 good helpers with half tank lean. One is refill before it gets to half a tank. The other is thanks to Mr. T a well respected member of this forum, I have used it on all my Savages and there has been a few. You get one of these and put it in the pressure line from the exhaust to the tank with the arrow pointing to the tank. It will act as a one way valve keeping the pressure even. As Nitro says if it is not botheriing you then don`t worry about it
almighty15
The OFNA tank doesn't interfere with anything as it's the same length as the stock tank.
locky
I couldnt fit the 125cc Ofna tank using standard mounting points on a 8 shock Savage, as the fuel outlet is on the rear of the tank and interfered with the shock, but if you have 4 big bore shocks then it fits. I tried the one way valve in the pressure line and wasnt sure about its effectiveness, as it sometimes seized closed (probably due to fuel drying out), so had to remove and clean. I must give it another try this year. Recently went back to a header tank set up to reduce half tank lean issue and seems best solution for me, as can see fuel in lines/tank and engine runs for longer, even when it's on its roof. Mid tank mod is the ultimate solution for half tank lean but never got around to it.
Gwigga
Now I've lost a wheel nut ....again.... I was browsing the build manual and something stuck. The picture below is trims are set to middle, now I'm sure my manual says the servo horn should be at 90 degrees to the body, would this explain my carb not fully opening... Gwigga
Yep that's not right... All sorted now, explains having to move the endpoint to get any decent throttle
Gwigga
Are these a decent upgrade, reason being is the previous owner was using a m4 lock nut and washer which has now come off and lost the hex and drive pin, http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/1171/
almighty15
I lost a wheel a few time and then when I bought a pack of 4 the nuts were different, I also used some blue locktite and never lost a wheel again.
