chirri999
Is a fuel cooler necessary on a 8.2cc truck, I have noticed on every fill up a smoky haze or is it an extra piece of kit that's not needed. Also How can I keep the engine temp down, I've drilled holes in windscreen and I'm thinking of creating a scop on roof ducting down towards the heatsink. Thanks. RCbutcher
The window mod helps but I think the most effective way to cool it if its running above safe temps is just richen it a little and use appropriate glow plug. Cold plug on hot days tuned to suit. Its crude but if you spit on it and it spits it back its too hot if the spit sits a couple of seconds then fizzles away its alright. That's what ive been told and done it afew times. Only once has the spit jumped straight off tho and soon after did snap the rod so I think it works alittle. A temp stick would be better tho and finding out what the safe max temp you can run at is. Its a big engine so might run hotter that the 21-28 blocks. Fuel cooler / filters just annoy me its just another possible leak or clog. They can look pretty tho still fuel tanks now usually have a filter inside so I wouldnt bother. The haze in the tank when you open it is just fumes from the back pressure pipe.
atom3624
My LRP's ended up almost stained that way!! Then I got a cheap Chinese temperature gun. I used to read some say YES, others WASTE OF TIME and do precisely as indicated - richen slightly and the spit test. Al.
Nitroholic
The only people likely to benefit from a cooler would be racers, as it may mean the difference between finishing the race and not.... For bashing, it's pointless in my view. The hot exhaust gas is being used to pressurise the tank, and a tiny little heat sink isn;t going to shed a lot of heat. As pointed out...it's also a great way to introduce extra joints into the pressure line where leaks will lead to lean running and overheating...which is ironic Heat expansion in the fuel tank isn't going to be a huge factor in tuning either. chirri999
cheers lads, steering clear of the coolers and drilling more holes in the screen and creating the scoop.
