I've always loved piggyback shocks, ever since I saw an Ohlins motorbike shock, I think the ones I linked will be a nice addition to the Clod... going to have to wait til about the end of the month for them though, they're coming from Australia!! just over 31 quid for 2 pairs... I cant find piggybacks in the UK for that price...

perhaps theres an opportunity there mate... relatively simple to make and work so well, although i cant see much of an 'after' market for a 27 year old RC, especially for the un-RC-educated who couldn't work out how to fit it let lone deal with a servo... seems pretty specialist but i know nothing about the potential demand to be honest... how did you make/mount your lower shock retainer plate thingy? and how is it fixed on!?

The shock mounting bracket was made from the same ali angle that was used for the servo mount and bolted to the top of the arm/bracket. Would be simple to make a bracket just wide enough for one shock. If it was single it would be easy to bend the front back to a better angle.

Yes I made the 4 link suspension for my Clod. So much stronger that the weak and flexible plastic kit bits.

Not too difficult a job. The hardest part was making up the links. I picked up some 6mm OD x 3mm ID stainless tube cheap on eBay and put M3 threaded rod through it with regular rod ends. The links bolt onto the stock locations on the chassis and there's some minor mods to bolt the links onto the axle hubs. One of these days I'll to take some proper photos and post them.

That looks awesome mate, I've found it to be a pretty good climber in its standard guise, I bet you could drive that bad boy straight up the wall!! I doubt ill ever get quite to your spec, I might have a crack at replacing the aforementioned horrible red bits with a different tie bar, I hoarded a load of 3mm ID aluminium tube up in my shed and that just about goes over M3 stainless stud-rod, I've got some nice straight lengths on their way to clad the turnbuckles after I've got both of these servo mounts made up, I've got to get in my attic to see if I can find a pair of servo posts on an abandoned project that I can salvage for the second mount, I cleaned my wheels and tyres up today, that's harder work than I thought it'd be!! mud on the bench was doing my head in....!

Maybe in the future mate, I just want to get it running perfectly first, I think ebay and the postman are having a day off today, nothing has been dispatched or delivered... so frustrating that there isn't a decent model shop in Eastbourne...

Project Clodbuster Update!

There's a lot less to report than id like! I got my piggyback shocks from Australia, got them fitted and they look awesome, they're a bit hard though, I'm going to drill the shock pistons out so they go a bit floppy, and I'm giving Johninderby's 4 way links some serious thought, I would make the axle shock mounting bracket but I think it'll effect the castor angle of the uprights and muller any handling it may have, 4 way links are the only way to eliminate that... I've also raided the old Lego box again in the interest of my rear bumper, never thought it'd need a wheelie bar but I was wrong, so I've mounted a 20mm wheel on either side of it to stop it hitting the ground, and the longer you can make a wheelie, the better, right?! they're monstrously long!! :) still waiting for a new spur gear for the brushless thunder tiger, the hobbywing and power wheelies lunched the original...!!  :)
