BRCA Membership

I would doubt any Home/House insurance covers any form of RC use Anywhere, its not for that at all,as already said, for the cost involved, its not worth not having it,claims can soon get way out of most peoples pockets very quick,so really it is a good idea to have it,but you don't have too for bashing,as a club member, its required if you want to race etc.

Based on what? A money maker for who?

Perhaps you should actually open your eyes and read Jim Spencer's post and BRCA accounts.

For years, responsible modellers, in all branches of the hobby, have carried Public Liability insurance and with the recent upsurge in "no win, no fee" Ambulance chasers (and it is they who, if anybody, are the money makers) this is even more prudent. You clearly have no conception of the potential costs in defending a personal injury claim, or the damages if you are found liable.

so on your track alex..a car hits someone's foot and breaks their toe...that person is self employed or works for a temp agency...they cant walk for a week... who pays their wages ?

yes insurance makes money...but to pay for the staff and run a company...you think BRCA just use the income to buy a yacht in monaco ? lordy !

don't believe your be fully covered,i know case of broken leg and they refused to pay, because they weren't at the marshell point, now how many cars crash at your feet?but if you race it a must have,if you bash save your money.also the money goes towards the nationals and international events,so it really only suports racers.

I see your point on that front, but what is the chance that a 1/10 buggy would break some ones toe. maybe not a yacht in Monaco lol

1/8 and 1/5th will hurt and easily break a ankle and a leg if your unlucky and there a chance of beening hit in the head over those big double jumps,i got hit by 3 1/8th at once at slough track and had them miss my head by inches,oh happys days, most 1/10th are head hits, there so light they tend to fly up higher

Home PLI certainly won't cover you whilst racing. Non-specialist insurance almost always has a 'competition' exclusion clause. Seen that in mountain biking too - I know someone who was refused a payout for a hospital bill after a crash in Morzine because it was decided that riding on a purpose built DH track classed as racing even though there was no event on.

However its a bit funny the whole insurance for racing thing - the insurance covers drivers, spectators, officials etc around the track and in the pits, and marshals at their posts. It does NOT cover marshals when they go on to the track to actually marshal cars, which is the time you are most likely to get hit. But thats not the BRCA's fault - its the insurance companies. That is because even with insurance you are supposed to at least act in a manner that avoids deliberate danger. A marshal leaving their post to venture on to a track full of speeding cars is not acting in the interests of their own safety and is therefore no longer covered. This rather defeats the point of marshals, but was something no company would insure without.

I've known a few (normally smaller) clubs that aren't BRCA affliated and don't actually ask for membership to race. Some have their own separate PLI they arranged for their members - these will be the clubs that want

Hi

Most of you seem to have got your head round the Insurance - it's to cover you if action is taken against you either as a driver or an organiser (and if you compete at a club at some point you'll be the later) this can be either the person you hurt or much more likely their insurer (or their employers).

If you hurt yourself then it's Personal Accident Insurance you need - this isn't included in BRCA membership as it's quite expensive (even when asking for a quote to cover 8500 people and then breaking it down =

Hi

No, not doing Brighton - Alan Leighton's doing that one, I'm at Centre MK for the National and show on the 15/16 Feb (in front of Lewis's if anybody want's to drop in!)

Call in for a chat with Alan though - it's always nice to chat to local racers especially as it helps to fill in knowledge gaps of the local scene!
