Battery pack for receiver

Recommended Posts

Hello chap, I'd recommend this one http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hpi-plazma-6.0v-1600mah-nimh-receiver-pack-re-chargeable-battery-3-2-hump-style/rc-car-products/363459

Or any other pack with the cells arranged in a 3+2 configuration should suit. You'll need a charger to go with it tho!

The difference between running one of these over AA's is night and day :)

I have just fitted one of these to my HPI pulse, They are awesome. The torque in the steering now is great.

Buy a decent peak charger as the crap trickle charger I bought is only 80a, it takes 32hours to charge from new.

It doesn't look like these will fit in my cars 4xaa battery compartment? Can anyone advise?

It replaces this sort of thing. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/traxxas-battery-holder-4-cell-no-on-off-switch-/rc-car-products/377047

Usually a plug between it and switch. Just unplug battery holder and replace with hump pack.

Sometimes holders are hard-wired to the switch, in which case you may need to replace switch as well.

If you have a built-in moulded battery tray (toy grade models, usually), you are probably stuffed!

It's probably too much effort, but what about using a Lipo and BEC? Nimh packs are a pain as they self discharge. I use a 2s Lion pack with BEC and lasts weeks without charge

There's no need for a BEC if you use a LiFe pack, as they have a lower voltage than LiPo (6.6v nominal). This is slightly above a NiMH but still well within the tolerances of most receivers and servos. I run one in my Savage and it's fantastic, I only have to charge it occasionally. Make sure you have a compatible charger though.

Here's the one I use: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-6v-1600mAh-LiFe-RX-Battery-Vapextech-Hump-/220888943885

Yup! Search Vapextech on eBay. They sell a blue rx pack. Straight swap for 4 AA. miles better!
