Well I've had it started now, but apparently before the previous owner new it was broke he said he use to use it for 10 mins once its warmed up it would cut out but then start after cooled is that down to compression or just over heating?

Btw got the 2.4 system today

that will probably be due to compression. sounds like it is on the way out. as the engine gets hotter the metal expands in turn this will allow air/fuel to go down the side of the piston. have you took an engine that you know doesnt work or arent scarred of damaging to bits? manuals/diagrams are good to get to know the parts of the engine but taking it to bits yourself so you know how it all feels and looks is the best way to find out how it all works.

imagine the engine as a syringe where the medicine/drug is the fuel. the plunger is the piston and inside the body of the syringe is the piston liner. if you use the syringe hundreds or thousands of times the plunger and the inside of the body of the syringe will begin to wear away allowing the drug/medicine to come out of where you press down with your thumb.
