Might be a stupid question but.....

Good little thread this +1 Sean for your advice in here.

Sounds like youre a glider fan!!!

Yep... As some said to me when I was learning...Only last year...

power flying is easy , slope soaring and gliding takes real skill as your using the up draft / wind to keep the glider in the air...

When I first go my Blizzard it had a brushless motor fitted , it was fun flying around at 100mph,

but the pure joy for me was slope soaring with it no motor ,hearing it whisle past you on the slopes.. so I removed the motor...

But I say hebby mite be a bit pushed for slope soaring / gliding in Manchester ,

Could allway launch off a high rise block of flats :whistling:

NO!! What i meant was what is better to fly in wind glider? or normal plane?

As long as you motor/Prop is strong enought to fly into the wind your OK,

Take off into the wind... land faceing into the wind..

any other way ,bring a bin bag to put your plane /glider parts into..

Most R/C pilot want a 10 mph wind , with no gustes.. early morning / evening in the summer is best...

mid day when the sun is out is great for thermal soaring ..for gliders

When you get good you can do this.. Never touches the ground..

I know a guy that got a SkySurfer...

It's a great little power glider... meaning you can fly it on 1/2 throttle around the field or climb really high and glide back down power off..

I'd defo go for that, small enough to through on the back seat of your car ...2c 7.4v Li-Po's which are Cheap...

There fun to fly , only rudder and elevator you can loop them , fly inverted , cannt roll as theres no ailerons but if your handy could all ways mod the wing and fit micro servos.. great little slope soarer as well as you don't need a big hills..

Yeah... Highly Recommended . .

Ok think ill order this one without the missus knowing :whistling: :whistling:

Best get a few Li-Po's aswell .. for when your zipping around... as you mite only get 15mins run time on Li-Po

Sloping no motor used , , could get upto 2 hours on 1 battery...

This time next year you'll have a full hanger...

Infact just looked online and the merlin tracer 240 battery is a 7.4 600mah and the sky runner is a 7.4 250mah will it still work? they are the same battery

As long as there both 2cell 7.4volts they will work...

the Higher mAh will give you longer flying time...

Just remeber a larger/bigger battery will change your CG,so check that when you change Li-Po's.

Hey I've taken a different route to the glider route, just in case this is an approach that appeals, I FREAKIN LOVE this stuff!

I learned over the summer, self-taught with a Hobbyzone Supercub Bind 'n' Fly, together with Phoenix simulator. Before long I was ready for an aileron plane.

I got the full size T-28

http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/62526/

this is an AWESOME second plane. Forgiving and easy to fly but LOADS more capable than a trainer.

I crashed it and bent the motor so I put one f these in as a replacement

http://www.lightningrc.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=57_71&products_id=292

Now it goes lovely on 3s but put a 4s lipo in and IT GOES LIKE MENTAL! Seriously it is BONKERS!

I've chucked a bomb drop module on it now, and I;'ve been dropping parachutes and stuff off it

AWESOME!

Very different from the glider approach though. I reckon I'm enjoying chunky power flyers rather than elegant soarers. Sure I'll give slope soaring a go one day, but the marshes I fly on are dead flat.

Now I just need to find someone to fly combat with, then I'll be really happy.

I've also started building my own planes from foam. Got a lot to learn but I reckon that's the future, as the electrics are interchangeable and the airframe is only a tenner's worth of foam and glue.
