  1. thanks for the help guys. it's actually the pinion on the front diff that is going. Does this mean anything do you think? i replaced the whole diff in its case last time.
  2. the new gopro black is pretty good to be honest. having said that, I've got myself a Sony Nex 5 recemtly for use with my hex on a gimbal - it's DSLR quality, interchangeable lenses etc compact but small enough to fly. you can get a second hand one off ebay within your budget. Have a think about what lens you want to get with it. If you want to spend a bit more you can get a nex 7 but to be honest the nex 5 does the job and you can get it a lot cheaper. hope that helps. there may be better advice out there but as far as i know the nex 5 is the benchmark for dslr quality in a small flyable package.
  3. I've got an X1 CRT brushless conversion with a mamba monster driving the big nitro spur. It is eatng front diffs. Put a new one in, drove for about 10 mins with my boy and it's gone again today. I'm thinking about selling it - it is a ridiculusly high powered setup - and getting something that won't be quite such a handful to keep running. Is there something I could be doing to stop it being so high maintenance? Or should I flog it to someone who will love it for the mental case it is and get something that will be less insane?
  4. thanks for your help guys. looking like we;ll go for the sand buggy. front runner at the mo. having a look at some of the turnigy arr ones at similar price as well, as they are ging to be so easy to get running, but i think the lads will be able to handle the sand buggy kit.
  5. thanks - yeah i was just looking at those on modelsport. Pete the stag wanted a grasshopper when he was a kid (as did I) - so I think that may still be in the frnt running just becase of that. i haven't put together a tamiya kit before - how musch effort would they be for a group of adults with a few beers and possibly not the best attention span? I'm a bit worried we woldn;t get the kits built before some people started getting bored.
  6. we're organising a stag for next weekend. we're thinking we'll get 2 rc kits, build them on 2 teams and race them. a complex kit is not going to work for bvious reasons. needs to be quick and easy. we're thinking tamiya grasshopper, but wonder if there is a better choice for ease and speed of bild at this cheap proce point. any ideas / suggestions?
  7. I did a review of the Turbodrone quadcopter. It's very much like the Hubsan X4 but with a couple of advantages.
  8. it's the smaller diameter of the 2 in this assembly, infact http://www.modelsport.co.uk/ho-bao-.21-main-needle-hub-valve/rc-car-products/27207
  9. i've lost one of the washers off my high speed needle assembly on my mac 28 (the lower one, specifically). any ideas what size washer i need to replace it? I do know that none of the hundreds of washers i have around the place are the right size.
  10. any ideas where i could ordersomeof these from? m0.8 pinion 18t 5mm shaft
  11. i never saw the sign so not sure but that is possible. does that mean that as the sign is gon there is no longer concern over the roots?
  12. thanks purcy all great info. is there anything particular i can do to make sure i know what i'm talking about? don't want to get in to an argument without knowing all the facts. the track is ad-hoc not formal. it's a dirt track between trees in the corner of the marshes by the canal and homerton road.
  13. Hackney Marshes has been a place to enjoy rc for many many years. This spring a fence went up across the track (which has now come down). Turns out the problem is residents of a new flat build across the canal who have parachuted in to our community and are trying to shut us down. please help us save rc on the marshes! email [email protected] explaining that rc cars are a family activity with a heritage on the marshes that stretches back many many years. It is an outdoor hobby that keeps our kids away from the TV. It is a safe and legitimate use of public space. Our right to enjoy our hobby on our public land with our children has to be respected and preserved.
  14. right that sounds totally believable. i'm not entirely sure whether to rebuild at the mo, willprobably figure out a new front end atsome point. if i do, i'll def beef up the elevons.
  15. lots of roll response but very little elevator response. i suspect CG too far forward. unfortunately slowing down resulted in dropping in a nose-first curve down and reduction of ability to pull out, so i felt ihad to keep the power up but was unablle to pull through turn. basically elevator insufficient. i do think CG most likely culprit.
  16. I've built up a pretty full on collection of glues. Here's my thoughts on glues! First off- EPO doesn't need foam safe CA- that will melt EPS (polystyrene) but not EPO or EPP So: CA (super glue) - keep this in my toolbox with some kicker. It sets instantly with kicker so can make instant repairs in the field. Downside- it's not flexible so not as good a join as a couple of other glues. Gorilla Glue - excellent adhesive, foams up to 4 times its size so great for gap filling. However it takes forever to set, and you have to keep coming back to it to clear up excess as it expands before it sets hard. UHU POR (not standard UHU) - this is great stuff, my main build glue. It's flexible and takes a while to set so it's a strong bond on foam and not brittle. Down side is it takes ages to set. Hot glue - fast as you like, fills gaps, but it's heavy. Epoxy - very strong, but a bit more of a pain to use and again it's heavy. I only use for beefing up motor mounts, though these days not even that. Foam safe CA- as per normal CA but won't melt EPS. I sometimes use gorilla glue and CA together- the CA stops the GG from foaming up so much, the GG provides strength in the joint. I use some others, and a variety of tapes as well, but those are the main ones.
  17. i'm considering getting a little qwuad when i've got some money. out of interest, what's the diffenrence between all the v929 / 939 / 949 ./ 959 variants? i wouldn;t have a clue which to get!
  18. I broke off one of those. Replaced it with one of these: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCLP3 hope that helps
  19. I'm in Hackney, East London. fly a flyingwings slipstream wing, scratchbuilt bigger wing (sausage drone), parkzone t-28 with a big motor stuck on it, funfighter t-28, scratchbuilt profile mig 29, got a load of bits and bobs i may get around to turning in to more planes at some point, though my missus says no more toys unless i get rid of some. i've got fpv goggles and camera but a bit scared of using them after i ended up in a tree a mile away when i tried it out. would like to have someone to go and spot with me and maybe give me some help and tips as i'm a bit worried to try again at the mo! i should probably put together a slow stable plane to learn fpv on to be honest.
  20. haha christ yeah i see there's a specification tab on the page isn;t there. i should probably just have asked straight out for a link! anyway awesome thanks so much guys will order myself some spares.
