Hpi_matrix_stock
I wanted to do this project about 3 years ago but as It would be modified I couldnt find anyone to insure me and I didnt have a clue how to go about the re-wiring so I went and bought a Saxo VTS. Originally I wanted to convert a series 1 106 to a VTS engine as it was my first car, then i found out the AX was lighter and I was gifted one, I then found out about a GTi and so decided to do the engine conversion on that. The main bits such as engine, gearbox, front suspension came from my saxo but I also trawled ebay for a year sourcing new bits and waited on forum group buys. The old saxo (doner car) Shiney new quick shift: Engine ready to go in: Must have had some water in at some point as no 2 cylinder was rusty inside, left a ton of oil in it overnight and then free'd it off by hand. Checked the compression and was still good so I think I got away with that one [-o< In place!: Had to change the beam twice, original beam had negative camber both sides, second was seized, third was a good'un and cheap! Next to the r9: Unfortunatly I havent got any nice pictures of it finished as I literilly had to finish the project, take it for MOT and then drive 125 miles to uni! Here is a poor pic taken with my iphone: It has had: VTS engine and Gearbox Heat wrapped 421 manifold, modified saxo supersprint middle pipe and janspeed backbox Blue VTR clocks Sparco hoses XSi rear beam VTS struts, ARB and brakes New Koni suspension all round OMP upper and lower strut braces A539 tyres on steelies VTS seats Waiting to go on it I have a fully refurbished disc rear beam, Newman PH3 cams and a predator ECU which will probably go on in the summer. I also bought an OMP cage, as there hard to come by second hand but im not sure if im going to take the car down that route as its my daily at the moment Edited November 14, 2011 by Hpi_matrix_stock

Bubbles
you should leave the steelies on and have it as a sleeper
Dave'n'Claire
We have a local garage in town that is in the process (slowly) of building a wide arched AX that is highly modified. It is basically a shortened and narrowed sierra 4x4 floorpan with the AX shell. Oh and its got a turbo technics ford V6 in it. The garage owner is nuts. Fairly well known in the vauxhall circle, but always puts work before projects. Be a good un when its done. But will be past its best technology wise. Evo_ermine
That Renault 9 brings back memories. Used to have a 1.4 model. A water pipe came loose on the A1, steam spewing everywhere. Pulled into a Mcdonalds carpark and people rang the firebrigade thinking it was smoke and the car was on fire! I didn't realise it was steam until I popped the bonnet. Very embarassing! What's the turbo 9 like? Not many of them around these days.
Hpi_matrix_stock
you should leave the steelies on and have it as a sleeper They'll be on for a while yet, I think the gti badges/stickers give it away as not being a sleeper though lol We have a local garage in town that is in the process (slowly) of building a wide arched AX that is highly modified. Is it red by any chance? What's the turbo 9 like? Not many of them around these days. The turbo was a decent car plenty quick (even though the carb wasnt set up properly) and a real sleeper. Was surprisingly comfortable as well and rust free! Sold it to a decent enthusiast who will look after it now as theres only 3 left on the road. I just can't be bother with carb'd cars now! Another pic I took with my iPhone, did bring my proper camera out but left the sd card at home, doh! Dave'n'Claire
No its a white one. I think the red one maybe a cosworth conversion i was reading about the other day on passion ford. Pauls is using XR4x4 running gear. Although it was a genuine turbo technics converted sierra If its in the workshop next time i go i will ask him if he minds me posting pics. Might get some of his cheeky V6 company combo van too. And maybe his V6 Daewoo Matiz as well.
danmc
Did the 16v VTS into a S1 Rallye afew years ago, it weighed in under 900kg and kicked out 156bhp- pocket rocket which saw off many more powerful and posh motors in its time. I ended up converting it back to a 1.3 Cammed Rallye engine which was even more ballistic lol. Nice AX, did you do the disc conversion/track conversion to from the VTS? Hpi_matrix_stock
Nice AX, did you do the disc conversion/track conversion to from the VTS? Track conversion? It has the front struts from the saxo but the rear beam is from an S1 XSi as I wanted to keep it on drums atm, apparently with discs its easy to lock up as the back end is so light (I reckon two people could lift it!). I have a refurbished disc rear beam to put on when i have time as the trailing arm bearings are worn on the current beam but I think il run an adjustable brake bias valve to solve the locking up problem.
