  1. Started putting stickers on the Impreza; hadn’t quite realised just how many stickers there are in a Tamiya rally kit. This may take some time.
  2. @Tomley RC posted up that these have been pulled from sale the other day, so might be a bit tricky to buy now if you did want one.
  3. Unfortunately the GT5, Noble and G7P all use different protocols that are incompatible with each other. So if I want to keep using my current Rx units I don’t have much choice but to stick with the GT5. I think the Noble Rx units start at about £32 each (compared to about £16 each for the GT5 compatible ones) and the G7P ones are £18 ish. The noble does come with two receivers in the box though which might be enough to get me started, possibly with one extra 8 channel Rx for the TRX4.
  4. I think I’d rather stick with a wheel controller for the cars. The extra channels are (currently) only used for fairly simple things like lights, gearbox and locking diffs so don’t need any particularly fancy controls on the handset.
  5. I run pretty much all of my cars from a single Flysky GT5 transmitter at the moment. If it’s just me out with a car that’s all well and good but as the collection expands I’ve been thinking it would be good to have a second transmitter to use so that me and the boy could take two cars out trailing/racing at the same time. I got a bit of money for Christmas so figured I may as well put this towards a new Tx. Only issue is this means I now need to make a decision on what to buy. The cheap/boring option would just be to pick up another GT5. It does everything I need a Tx to do and could use it with all the Rx units I’ve already got installed in the cars. The other option would be to spend a bit more money and get a new mid-range system and then pick a few cars to move over to it. I’ve never used a higher end set than my GT5 so I don’t really know what the more expensive radio would be like in use. If I did get a new radio I think I’d want something that has at least six channels for the TRX4 and it would ideally “feel” nicer in the hand that what I have now. I think based on this I’d probably be looking at the Flysky Noble or Wfly X9 from some initial research (possibly a bit of a gamble on the X9 as there aren’t loads of reviews out there) . So, what would you kit do in this situation? Stick with the GT5 or get something nicer? If you went for the nicer option what model would you go with?
  6. Any idea what the connector pitch is? Just from the look of it I’d guess it might be something from JST but it could easily be from someone else too.
  7. No postie involved but I thought @Bert_w164 should see what he’s gone and made me do. Picture with full salad just in case I set anyone else off.
  8. Or try and sell it to a collector if it is really good nick. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285013847550
  9. https://amzn.eu/d/bCGRoXc I’ve got load of these floating about in the house. Most are lost in various kids toys but there are normally plenty left to go in the Tx too.
  10. That looks filthy and very very tasty. I want a kebab now.
  11. Thanks. It might change a bit before it’s done though as I’ve still not taken off the overspray film (even if this is the most tempting thing in the world right now) to keep it nice and clean for the decals.
  12. It wasn’t warm but it was sunny so I thought I’d risk painting up one of the two rally shells. I think I’ve gotten away with it even though there was quite a bit of condensation on there after the last backing coat. Put the new zero offset wheels on too; the shell clearance is quite a bit better now but might still need a bit of work because of the toe in on the rear wheels.
  13. That sounds like the sort of thing a resin printer should be good for. I’ve not used one myself but I think you might need something for doing a final UV cure of the resin part once it’s been washed. I believe we have a separate machine for doing that into go with the resin printer we have at work. I’m sure I’ve read about some printers having some sort of extra cure function built in too.
  14. What sort of parts are you looking to produce with it? If you want to create “engineering” parts then Fusion 360 is pretty good and has a free hobbyist licence you should be ok to use. If you want to produce nicer looking models for things like minatures or more organic designed then blender might be a better place to start.
  15. Can you try swapping two of the motor wires over with each other? Shouldn’t matter which two you swap (as long as it isn’t a sensored motor/esc combo).
  16. That makes my feel bad for hiding inside and not painting mine.
  17. Is that a lexan or hard body? Either way it looks really good and those colours suit it well.
  18. I wouldn't be surprised if these all came out of the same factory in china using the exact same design (bar the stickers and screen printing on the case work) and that the Sky RC ones are really no different from all the others. Worst case I would guess the Sky RC may be the original design that their original producers copied and started shipping to other people out of the back door. In practice this may mean that the clones are not the latest version of the hardware design (because Sky RC should have moved to a new supplier once the clones started appearing; if they have any sort of sense and actually came up with the original design) and that they may not have the latest firmware either. That doesn't mean that they won't work as intended though. End of the day you just have to make a decision on who and what you trust yourself though as it is unlikely you'll ever be able to find out the full picture of what is going on with them without buying several different ones and tearing them apart to look for differences in their build.
  19. This does sound like the wrong tip rather than the iron power (or solder, or anything else) being the main issue. This is the tip I use with my knock off 135W JBC soldering iron when I’m doing RC connectors. That’s a 4mm bullet next to it as a size reference.
  20. Spent a satisfying evening putting quite a lot of spacers into the TB-05. They went onto all four axels and suspension arm hinges and I’ve managed to do the rear uprights/hub carriers as well. Still have the front uprights/hub carriers to do but it’s made a huge difference to the amount of play at the wheels. The car now fees a lot more like the set up I was expecting, rather than the sloppy thing that turned up from eBay a month ago.
  21. Same here, I really hope everyone being pushed hard enough to go out on strike gets what they want/need now. More than happy to suffer a bit of late post if it helps them.
  22. I’m pretty sure this started out as me needing a few spacers and a pair of zero offset wheels for the TB05 Impreza.
  23. Looks like the kit version has a few decent upgrades over the RTR models: Aluminium motor mount Aluminium shock bodies Slipper clutch https://www.instagram.com/p/CmEORd3okVH/
  24. I don’t think that I’ve had any particular delays with anything I’ve ordered recently. Anything with tracked postage seems to be turning up when it should even if it’s with Royal Mail. Less confident about the untracked stuff like letters though. We’d normally have quite a few Christmas cards through from family and friends by this point but have so far only got one. So suspect this is where things are really falling apart with RM.
