  1. I think the surpass rocket I’ve got in mine works out around 2300kv as well. Certainly makes for fun driving with a 3S pack in even if it was a bit of a liability when run with a big heavy shell on top.
  2. I prefer the way the stingers look but suspect the more aggressive tread on the jigsaws would get more bite in loose dust.
  3. Depending on how the driver circuit is designed it might work or it might blow up (likely in a very undramatic way). Without having designed it myself, or knowing the circuit design, I'd not risk it if I was sort of happy with just having brake lights working. The other alternative would be to see if you an make some sort of light pipe to get the output from both LEDs channelled into the one space you have available. Possibly using something like this: 1216.1002. Mentor, Light Pipe, Flexible, 80 mm | Farnell UK
  4. L&L models have a post up on Instagram about the pricing on this one. Looks like someone at Tamiya in the UK messed up the initial quotes for this, so they have revised the price down a bit. L&L are going to be doing them at £319 now. Edit: looks like modelsport have dropped their preorder price too.
  5. Fastrax have a couple of options that might be worth looking at if you want something with a fairly aggressive grip pattern for a loose/dusty surface. Fairly sure these are within a few mm of the size of the stock truggy wheels (though no idea if the offset is similar). https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/fastrax-1-16-jigsaw-tyres-mounted-on-8-spoke-black-wheels-2--425944 https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/fastrax-1-16-stinger-tyres-mounted-on-8-spoke-black-wheels-2--425946
  6. The Monster Truck wheels/tyres I have are indeed the same outer size as the wheels that came with my truggy. From memory I think the offset is pretty much the same as well.
  7. Sorry, wasn’t trying to be confrontational, just curious about what you were trying to achieve. I’m not familiar with the drag brake on the 1060, or most of the other ESCs discussed above. However I do have a 1080 in my trail truck which has the drag brake turned up all the way for crawling. When I forget about this and take my finger off the trigger at trail speeds my TRX4 will quite happily flip its self over with the deceleration from the drag brake. If the drag brake setting in the 1060 is on at the equivalent of 100% in the 1080 then I’d expect it to have a similarly dramatic effect. Though I guess that would be very unlikely to flip a TT02 like it does with the TRX4.
  8. Why do you want a drag brake in a TT02? Or is for use in something else?

One other thing that might be worth looking into (even though you hate postage charges) is how much you can get your hop-up parts for from a place called Plaza Japan. They are in Japan so postage costs are going to be around £20 but their prices on Tamiya stuff are so low it doesn’t take buying too much before the savings more than cover the postage. I’ve put two orders in recently (I made sure to keep the total under £100) and haven’t had any import charges. Delivery took a bit over a week I think. https://www.plazajapan.com

    Tamiya TT02

Don’t forget the paint. May also be worth considering some oil damped shocks as well as the friction ones in the kit aren’t going to be brilliant. When I was looking at getting my first Tamiy a few months back I was looking much more closely at the TT-02D and TT-02S chassis kits (and buying the shell separately) than the base model TT-02. These both come with some worthwhile upgrades in the box (like oil shocks, bearings and metal drivetrain bits) and include a motor to get you going. In the end I went with an XV-01 though as it seemed like the best choice for me to get a good rally car and was still just about in budget.
  11. They should still have an effective 25C rating when wired up in series (or parallel). I’d be very curious to see what ~37 W of power (7.4 x 0.2 x 25) would do if you could get it all into the tiny truck these will be going into. Would probably be able to fly.
  12. Gave the two rally cars a clean and swapped over the HPI clone tires on the XV01 for some rally blocks to see if evens up the handling/mess a bit between the two cars.
  13. I’ve not got any room in the house to put them on display, so they’ve all got to earn their keep. Shame cleaning them isn’t a bit more fun though.
  14. Got both cars out today on a mostly frozen dirt car park with the lad (and his three year old sister). Couldn’t convince him to try racing yet but it was good fun having them both running at once. The three year old managed much better than I thought she would but I wasn’t brave enough to let her try anything past a 50% setting for the dual rate on the throttle. I was too busy to think to take any pictures while we were out but have this one from when we got home. Looks like the XV01 is the much better choice for running in the dirt, going to need to come up with some extras to protect the TB05 if we’re going to keep taking it out when it’s wet and mucky. Probably need to glue the tires too as the fronts keep coming off on the XV01.
  15. I’ve used slick honey on mine as it’s what I use on the seals of my mountain bike forks. Feels like the right sort of stuff (very light and slippy) but I’ve never had any green slime to compare it to. Does come in larger sizes than the RC marketed stuff so should last for ever if you don’t use it elsewhere. I think sram butter is similar stuff too.
  16. You can see what I did with mine in the build thread linked below. I think the only thing I’d do differently if building this now is to go for a higher kv motor than the 3100kv one I picked to start off with. I think if you look in the recent posts from @.AJ. you should see he’s just bought one of these to build up.
  17. That’s certainly what I’ve had to do when I upgraded the combined Reciever/Esc in my first buggy. Still worth it for me though as it meant I’ve been able to keep using the same transmitter (Flysky GT5) on all the cars I’ve built up since.
  18. It might be worth looking at the LC racing kit offerings that you can pick up from DMS. There are a few options that you should be able to complete within your budget and they all seem to be pretty well regarded (I certainly like mine). The 1/14 EMB-TGH truggy, 1/10 PTG-1H buggy, 1/10 PTG-2R rally car and 1/10 LC10 buggy would probably be worth considering. https://www.dms-racing.com/browse-store/manufacturer/lc-racing/models/models---all-types---off-road/off-road-models-all-wheel-drive https://www.dms-racing.com/browse-store/manufacturer/lc-racing/models/models---all-types---on-road?keyword=
  19. Do you have a transmitter that does channel mixing? You might be able to program in that sort of behaviour on some of the more configurable units.
  20. Thanks, I may have some of those knocking about somewhere from my EMB truggy kit. I’ll see how they go onto the Tamiya shocks.
  21. Where do you normally pick your springs up from? I’ve been wondering about getting a few different ones to try out but the Tamiya ones I’m after are either out of stock or ridiculously expensive.
  22. Currently got some of these tyres on mine, sorry proline. Not sure they perform any better than the stock canyon trails but they look a bit more scale. https://a.aliexpress.com/_mLGVUtU I’ve got them mounted on some of these wheels with a slightly wider set of spacers fitted to clear the disc wheel weights I run them with. https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPoJ7sI That’s the wheels fitted with some slightly smaller class 1 hyrax clones. These seem decent enough but the rubber wasn’t as nice as the other two and the smaller size did make the truck a little less capable. I think you can get them in a larger size if you look about. https://a.aliexpress.com/_mNgw9MA
  23. I got a chance to paint the Lancia’s grill and stick the last few stickers on today. So this one is probably ready to head out and get dirty now. Feeling slightly better about the colour now it’s finished.
  24. Tamiya Lancia Delta on an XV-01 chassis.
