  1. Nice video. Yep thanks Nick for arranging. It was a relaxing way to spend a few hours and nice to meet those who attended.
  2. I also didn't know this existed. I'm very slowly sorting out the parts to build up a Hyper 7 roller I bought from here but I do love an SCT so am looking forward to seeing this progress.
  3. Thanks, that's really helpful. I've been keeping an eye out on here, Facebook and eBay for a motor. I'll probably go with the WPSC8 as it's cheap.
  4. Without wanting to hijack the OPs thead I have questions regarding motors and ESCs for brushless Hyper 7s. I recently bought a Hyper 7 roller from the for sale pages on here which already has a motor mount and battery tray, so I'm currently looking for a well priced motor and ESC. Realistically I'm only wanting to run 4s, and it'll just be used for light bashing on road, dirt and short grass etc. I've read the above threads it seems you could get cheap 4274 cans and a Hobbywing 8BL150 for around £100, but the cheap motors look to have increased since then so they're not really any cheaper than a 4274 Hobbywing from a UK supplier. A lot of people say just get the Max 8 combo and be done with it, but are there any cheaper reliable options for a Hyper 7 running 4s? For example is a SC8 which is rated at 120 Amps up to the job? And what's the difference between an 8BL150 and a Max 8 ESC? I've read on here that the cheaper ESCs are prone to burning up, would that likely be the case if only running 4s? Ultimately I don't want to spend more than I need to, but at the same time I don't want to have to replace things that aren't up to the job.
  5. It does look pretty good, goes well out the box and the electrics are easier to replace should something fail.
  6. I saw an RC Kicks video where he mentioned these were in the pipeline. I believe these brushless versions will use a three wire servo too. I know that people's opinions are divided on these but the platform is proven to be good for speed runs etc and with the new electronics they should be fairly good straight out the box with scope to upgrade as and when required. If I were to buy one I'd add my own lipo and charger but that's similar for most things at this price point.
  7. I've used Lucas Red N Tacky on my mountain bike and for my RC crawler axles. I've not really used my RCs in extreme wet conditions like some do but it seems to be doing the job for crawler axles so far. My gearbox and transfer case are filled with Moly grease, not sure if there was any benefit to it but I already had some. The Mobil XHP-222 grease BigGinge has linked to is popular amongst mountain bikers and I believe Hope use it too. If I was buying again I'd probably go with the Mobil grease due to its reputation. That said the tube of Red N Tacky grease is lasting ages, it'll be years before I need to buy any more.
  8. I ordered an "Overlander RC6-VSR" from ebay for £17.28 a few weeks back. It arrived in Amazon packaging and was in fact an FTX Vantage pinion. I hope you have more luck than I did. To be fair to the seller they were apologetic and sent me a return label same day, and refunded me as soon as they received my return. I ended up getting a 150W 10A HTRC 150 charger and a 2S 3000Mah FCONEGY LiPo from Amazon as I needed them for a weekend and I'd lost time with the RC6-VSR charger, I've only used them twice so far but they've been fine.
  9. They're called bullet connectors. I think they're usually 4mm.
  10. No worries mate. I'm still learning as I've just returned to the hobby after 15+ years and a lot has changed. I use the same radio gear so I've had to do the bind procedure myself. The Hi Rock looks like a good truck, happy trailing 👍
  11. I think these use the rebranded DumboRC radio gear. If so there's a very small button in the side of the receiver that you need to push in for a couple of seconds to put it in bind mode. When you turn the car on the LED inside the receiver case should light up green. The button is on the side of the receiver near where the antenna exits the case. It's recessed in the case so you'll need a paperclip, small allen key etc to poke in there. Keep the button depressed until the receiver LED starts flashing green then turn on the remote. Once the binding is complete the LED should return to a solid green. If my description is terrible try this video
  12. I've really enjoyed reading this build thread. It looks fantastic.
  13. I don't own one but did consider one as they look great for the money. I ended up building a WPL C14 KM which I'm happy with. Have a look at the RGT 136161, it's the same as the FTX XC series, just rebranded but there are more reviews as it's been out a bit longer.
  14. It looks like you've got a bit of loctite on the plastic axle housing there, you might want to wipe it off as loctite isn't good for plastic. Looks good though, nice and fresh 🙂
  15. You know I hadn't considered mixing axles, which is a bit daft as I was looking into overdrive setups and transfer cases last night. I'll look into it.
  16. Thanks Gaz. It's actually your old chassis, gearbox and transfer case I'm using as the basis of this build. Thanks for packaging it all so well. I'd read that some of the axles use SCX10 internals but there are so many variants listed on Bangood and Ali Express that I'm not sure which ones have Axial innards.
  17. I've been looking at some of the builds here and elsewhere and really like these. They look very well engineered and good value for what you get.
  18. Yup, I ride when I can. I've always been a fan of Orange bikes, although I've never owned one. The closest I have is a bright orange On One Big Dog hardtail I built up last year.
  19. I'm not really fussed about new or used, plastic or metal housings to be honest. Just looking for something fairly reliable with good spare parts availability. I'm also trying to assess how feasible it is to build a reliable truck on a budget before I start buying any more parts.
  20. Hi all. I've been browsing these forums for a few years on and off, and finally signed up last week. I've fancied the idea of a crawler for a few years but resisted buying one until I bought a 1:16 scale WPL earlier this year. Now I've used the WPL a bit I've realized I still want a 1:10 scale. I've done a few searches on this topic but I keep finding mixed opinions. Hopefully someone here can help. I'm considering building up a 1/10 crawler, from scratch. I've already got a 1/10 aluminium chassis and an RC4WD single speed transmission and transfer case that I acquired from here last week. It seems driveshafts, links, dampers, wheels and tyres etc can be had pretty much anywhere for reasonable money but I'm struggling with axles. I've read that the RC4WD axles can be fragile and they're not cheap so not sure I want to go down that route. Does anyone know of any fairly cheap but reliable axles with decent spares availability? I've seen the CNC axles listed for £65 on eBay that are in the UK, or similar looking ones on Ali Express etc for about £45. I'd happily buy them if they're of reasonable quality and spares can be obtained but I can't find a definitive answer on this. I'd ruled out the cheap plastic axles as I'd read parts availability isn't great and the internals aren't that robust. Is there a go to product that people use for custom builds? I was thinking straight axles rather than portals. Or would I be better off shelving this idea and just buying an existing kit or RTR? A Carisma, Hobao DC1 or Element Enduro for example.
  21. Thanks for the warm welcome folks
  22. Hi all. I've been lurking these forums on and off for a few years, so thought it's about time I registered. Like a fair few people I used to have a few Tamiya cars and trucks in my teens but left the hobby when real cars took over. I started to get interested in the hobby again when I discovered RC crawlers a few years back but never committed to buying anything until last month when I bought a WPL C14-KM. I really enjoyed the build and it's been great fun driving it around the house. I'm planning a 1:10 scale next though as they're what attracted me back to the hobby.
