  1. Hi Redback, I’ve been running the High Rock version for over a year and see value in the. upgrades you’ve engineered. Happy to get you some durability testing done :)
  2. Mine came with black wheels. I detailed the ‘beadlock’ nuts with some silver paint to lift them a bit.
  3. Hi Spooner73, I enjoyed following the thread today and laughed when I saw your reveal of your purchases. I bought the same combination for my son and I a year ago. We’ve had fantastic fun on the trails and modifying / repairing our rigs. I do advise checking over (everything) on these FTX RTR’s as consistency in assembly quality is sketchy at best. Great rigs, very capable for the money and cheap to repair. Lipo definitely worth it in run time and weight. I’ve got one 5000mah NIMH and the weight has a significant negative impact on performance at the trails. Wish I’d never bought it knowing how great Lipo is. Hope you and your son continue to have great fun.
  4. Hi Gents, I got a Sherpa a month ago and have enjoyed a few short runs so far. Thoroughly enjoying the looks, open diffs and 2 gears. It’s really opened my eyes to learning wheel placement and thinking through a climb / rocks. One downside is definitely the stock tires. Even non-branded block tires I got for my High-Rock out perform them. On the hunt for new tires but enjoying the low grip challenge! Upgraded ESC and motor - running HW 1080 and Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster Sport. Silky smooth. The overall quality of the Sherpa compared to my FTX High-Rock is significant. Well worth the money and a worthy step up from my perspective. I am running it on 2s lipo (tried it on nimh for a few runs) and am very pleased with the punch and lighter weight.
  5. Or save yourself the hassle and enjoy some drifting for a few days
  6. Made a DIY circuit & LED’s for the Hi-Rock roof light pod.
  7. Could I be the only Hi -Rock owner in the forum??
  8. Hi tv.1982, I’m sure you have some beautiful locations for trails in Sweden. From what I’ve experienced so far, it’s a tough balance between cash affordability and durability. As much as I enjoy bashing my FTX Carnage, because it’s cheap it also isn’t up to the same abuse as an Arrma or Traxxas. But FTX parts are cheap! In hindsight, I’d rather have saved a bit longer and gone for something like the Rustler or Arrma Typhoon as I find myself holding back my driving to reduce FTX breakages and time out of action. Hope you enjoy the Rustler.
  9. Howdie Hardcore, My son has only had 2 runs with the UBEC Hobbywing (3A). No issues. The instructions did recommend keeping the UBEC 25mm away from the RX to avoid interference. I think this is because the switching noise must be quite high given the circuit isn’t heavily shielded. I hot glued the ferrite ring to the inside of the RX box to keep it from clanging around, definitely keep this as it is reducing interference going back to the RX via the cable.
  10. Servo failed on my sons Outback Fury after only 10 hours of trails. Got an amazon special (as it’s very difficult to get spares locally atm) and put on a hobbywing UBEC at the same time. I like the idea of the extra redundancy and load separation. I am going to do the same for my FTX Carnage to ensure I can steer rather than have brown-outs if the battery is getting low (NIMH).
  11. At least you don’t have to worry about trapped water any more..
  12. Cheers Gaz, interested in both Dirt Grabbers and Boom Racing. Want to double check, are they both 12mm hex?
