  1. Thanks Nick. Good post although I’m not sure about the last bit. If you buy a car and something is wrong or you have a concern, query etc then they owe you that service. I was in that camp a couple of months ago and found it really frustrating not being able to phone and waiting over a week for an email replay. In addition I have bought 90% of all my rc cars, parts etc from Modelsport. They’re not always the cheapest but I buy from them because I buy into that service. I appreciate the insight for how everything has worked though 👍
  2. I don’t know why we are only just now getting a click and collect service now. It’s been frustrating and I don’t really understand the need to fully close including phone lines either.
  3. Do you ever need spares? I’ve not broken anything yet on my Hypers.
  4. That makes it sound as though you won’t get a customs bill through HobbyKing which is not the case at all.
  5. Some of their batteries look exactly the same as the Turnigys and Zippys. Wondering if they’re just relabelled. Prices are very similar to HK so might be worth a look but then HK offer free delivery over $100 anyway so not much difference again.
  6. I can fully understand the reluctance to send, bash, drive it hard etc. But then I begin asking myself, what is the point of this car? Its an expensive, space consuming dollop that you can’t have as much fun with in fear of breaking something expensive.
  7. This is sad. I bought 4000mah 6s lipos a year ago for a lower price than what these postal charges are now. The end of 6s single lipos as hardly anyone is going to purchase these over 2x 3s lipos now and MS and WS prices are just silly.
  8. I used the RWs with the standard spur and got 6 months from the spur when I covered up the holes. I preferred keeping the plastic spur as a) it was so cheap and b) I would rather that the spur gear crunches rather than the weak metal gears in the front and rear gearbox. I see it as sacrificial. Didn’t always stop the front and rear gears getting recked though. l but did help.
  9. Yes it’s 3.2mm 0.6 mod. Here is what you need. You can drop a tooth to get more torque/lower speed or up a tooth for less torque/more speed if you do wished. https://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?CategoryID=9920&SubCategoryID=992050&ManufacturerID=48&CategoryID=9920&MSAttributeID[41]=647
  10. My sons Ferrari Hyper 7 PS60 backed with white.
  11. I never found it necessary to use oil. The diffs aren’t sealed either so not worth the hassle. Mind you, I never found It necessary to use 3s either 😆
  12. Those Aldi ones don’t go that hot though. 80w + is ideally what you are looking for. I would also suggest going to LiPo straight away. No point in getting a nimh it is inferior to LiPo in every way.
  13. If you have a Hyper 7 convert it to brushless. Brilliant cars. I’ve just completed one, it’s worth the effort.
  14. I got 50 minutes with 2s 6000mah lipos in my old brushed Ftx carnage. I see no reason why the Maverick couldn't do similar.
  15. I'd go for the Triton brushed. If you're new the brushed is more forgiving and much cheaper than the brushless version. But... You will need a decent charger £35ish for an Overlander. £50 for 2 x 6000mah 2s lipos from Hobbyking Soldering kit and a load of XT60 connectors and heat shrink tubing. A lot of reading and researching for the above.
  16. RW have said they would do it but looking at my pinions Im now thinking that going up a size would leave very little room at the end rendering it prone to cracking. A shame really as they could have done with a larger grub but hopefully a 14.9 grub screw will be sufficient.
  17. Yes, quality tools are needed. My Turnigys are very good but the Wihas just have the edge when it comes to extracting rounded off heads. I’m not concerned that they need upgrading. Pinion grubs are the only issue I have and that’s not very often. I agree they need threadlock. I believe RW grubs to be soft steel and from researching now believe that the 14.9 will be harder. I may not go for the 2.5mm hex M5 pinion option as I think that the hole will make the end of the pinion quite narrow. Don’t want it to crack.
  18. So Wiha and Turnigy are no good? They seem very good to me and I’ve had no chewed heads on anything other than the pinion grub so spending more than £20 to improve on the tools I have when I could just get a better grub screw for £2 is bonkers. If I can get a tougher grub screw then why not? They’re around £2 for 5. The only reason I wouldn’t get them is if they are in fact softer than the RW grubs. There is no point in passing up opportunities to make something better just because of a principle that you shouldn’t to. I do know that RW pinions are mild steel before they are hardened, I just don’t know whether the grubs go through the same process. How 14.9 compares to the RW grubs I have no idea as I don’t know whether they are hardened or just left as mild steel. I suspect the latter and I suspect that 14.9 is harder.
  19. I use Wiha prostars and Turnigy, both perfectly good enough but I don’t want this to turn into a tool discussion as who knows how much one person tightens compared to the next, how much threadlock is used etc etc.
  20. I have been using RW pinions since I got into RC and never had one break. Unfortunately though, I have had issues with the little grub screws they come with rounding off. Has anyone tried using 14.9 high tensile grub screws? ...or does anyone know what tensile strength the grub screws are that come with them? I was going to ask them to make a pinion bored out to take a M5 grub screw but wondered whether it might be worth just getting a M4 14.9 grub screw.
  21. I thought it was better to get the non flat ones so that all the pressure can be concentrated onto a smaller area.
  22. With lockdown resulting in a long build waiting for parts it is finally completed so I thought I would share some pictures of it unscathed. The Ferrari Hyper (F)7 with PS60 red, PS1 white backing, Absima 5 spoke wheels, HW Max8 and Power HD servo it drives fantastically. Hope you like it.
  23. Thanks. I’ve just done that but over did it, lol. I’ll prize them back out a bit tomorrow.
