To be fair, I'm surprised they never went under years ago, A company as big as them, With the buying power they had, Still charged way more than anyone else for anything, Very rarely went in even if I walk straight passed one with me little girl in tow, Just new it wasn't worth it.

And Maplin’s has just gone into administration as well. Not surprised as they had the same problem as Toys R Us and were so overpriced.

Sad to hear about Maplins, I actually thought they were okay on price, not the cheapest, but always decent stock and in the ones I visited, pretty knowledgable staff too.

I only bought small bits from Maplins as it was often cheaper and more convienient than ordering online. Their bigger items though were often  overpriced compared to online.

Yes gutted for maplins they sell some great stuff at cheap prices. My kids ecx ruckus came from maplins as used RTR, But must have been club owned since maplins had tons of them for sale all kinds of 1ten ecx rcs. Ours was £50 winning bid and arrived perfect not abused far from it. I wonder if theyll have any other rcs atm. Or any deals.

Stuff toys r us i dont care for them anyway its disgusting shop. 90% of their stock is 10-20% cheaper at argos or other. Its there fault. Poor staff but the brand has been dead for years. It was like going to aladdins cave years ago inc electric scooters to ride around the shop. Amazing fun. But the prices was mental then too.

McDonald's is another thats lost all its magic and dont seem to care. But im sure they'll be safe. I just wish they rememberd families sometimes have push chairs. So stop letting the tramps and bored kids just horde the only tables suitable for the family's. Instead they just allow one full table to consume one drink. Whilst a family walks in and out 3x in one day. With one tramp sleeping the whole time. Its disgusting. 3hrs he slept atleast at a prime table near the tills.

    Upstairs empty but..

I also like the way that McDonald's has worked out what we worked out years ago, that the Big Mac was an overpriced joke of a burger, So what did they do, Put the Big Mac right, NO, They gave us the Signature.

Apart from having to go in every now and then for a kids party, Won't catch me anywhere near the place, Overpriced dogs dinner excuse for food.

Am sad for Maplin tho, Problem is, We all like to have a walk around one, But we very rarely buy anything.

I think this is the problem with a lot of shops nowadays.

I don't personally do this, but I know people nowadays go into a shop, to find what they want, get the part/model number, then go and buy it online for a few quid cheaper.

Everyone complains shops are dying, but WE are the ones killing them.

When my ex-LHS closed, I really didn't think I'd miss it, because some of his prices were silly, but for things like styrene, balsa, paints, glues etc... I really miss it.

It's only now it's gone I have realised how often I did actually buy stuff.

Although he didn't go out of business, he retired after 26 years successful trading.

We do seem to get a raw deal, if we rely on a shop, it's usually expensive, if we import outselves we get shafted by the greedy government.

I've said many times, we are our own worst enemy, We know when stuff is overpriced, But we still buy it, We all know that pretty much everything Traxxas sells is overpriced, Still doesn't stop some from buying them, Or worse, Pre-ordering (Whats all that about).

No saying has ever been more true than 'vote with your wallet', How many cars have come up in the news section were people say it will never sale, Then it will be discontinued, The Sworkz Fox is a case in point.

    sw940001_hr1.jpg

It's not been out 5 minutes, But as soon as I saw it I thought to myself that will never sale, (And I like Sworkz stuff), And it never, Which is why it's on sale at Modelsport and pretty much every other place that stocks it,  That's people voting with there wallet and having an impact on a products life cycle or price.

Maplin's still a totally viable business, it's been bankrupted by its vulture capital owners. Long story short, they "bought" the chain using borrowed money, took on Maplin's existing debts and started charging 15% on them. Today, Maplin would be making a profit if it weren't for those credit-card level interest repayments. Just madness. But apparently it's better business for Rutland to put them into administration than it is to reduce the interest rates to sustainable levels

Rutland raised all of the actual costs of the buyout via bank lending- the only part of the buyout which was their own money was to take on (and profit from) those debts. They then transferred all of those bank loans to Maplin too charging the same 15%

So basically, slash-and-burn capitalism destroys company and puts people out of work for quick buck.

TRU are another story of course, every year "Oh it's so hard to do business in this sector, and the internet..." while Smyths goes "Actually we're doing grand, growing as fast as Amazon..."
