Hello I just got the Roto Start 2 for my TRophy Truggy 4.6 and I had to Take the top part of the rear bumper off with my Dremel tool and I still have to have someone lift my right tire so the roto can go all the way to the engine.  Now it works but its a pain in the azz and was wondering if someone had an easier solution (other than to get a Starter Box lol)  Anyways any help is appreciated!!

Hi all. My few week old 4.6 TT. So far mostly stock, just a couple of add'ons. More to follow.

I want to give a shout out and prop's to all that have built this thread. Here in the USA, the TT's aren't paid much attention too as much as they are over on your side of the pond. I've been stuck in the MT and SCT rut for a long time and needed to expand on my RC vehicle horizons and always loved the Truggy look...so here I am.

But ever since I ordered this, I found very little info on them here in the US. But this forum kept coming up on all my google searches. No matter what I typed in for a search, this place popped up multiple times. So when I have time, Ive found myself starting at the beginning and have gotten up to page 140...so far. Great stuff.

The Proline Badland/Desperado's I already had for a project truck that I got bored with and knew they would be a perfect fit for this rig. I've gotten a gallon's time on them and they have not disappointed. My backyard bash area is short cropped grass and these things hook up big time.

I did the 17mm hex upgrade mentioned here. It sounded like a decent durability upgrade.  I added an inline filter to back up the clunk. The HPI Option parts are rare to find here. But I did locate one of the aluminum front chassis stiffeners. A Roto Start went in. I replaced the shock oil to 50w at all 4 corners and that made a huge improvement. Corners much better and fly's far more stabile.

I just got in a GoPro Hero3+ Silver yesterday. I cant wait for the weather to clear and try that out. I have a new spare factory shell that I stuck 1 of the mounts on the roof. I picked up one of the headband camera holders so I don't have to attempt to drive and hold a handheld video cam at the same time.

My nimh hump pack just came today and is charging up. I have a new HS7995TG servo just itching to be put into this. But for kicks I wanted to see how good/bad the OE steering servo was. So far, I'm impressed for such a cheap servo, but we all know that it wont last. I will probably stick one of my many new spare Traxxas 2075 in the throttle. throttle speed is okay, but brake power? Not so much.  I've got diff oils coming in the post. 5/7/2k and will get those taken care of soon.

Other than that I'm in a bit on the fence on how to proceed. Do I just run and replace/upgrade as I break stuff? Or do I bite the bullet and just pick up the D8T kit? Though the D8T kit doesn't cover all the things I eventually want to upgrade. Lots of cool goodies for fairly short money, but still need to spend the big bucks to replace the plastic steering bits with aluminum.

Only other thing that will need addressed sooner than later is the steering slop. I did replace the OE bushings right off new with roller bearings. But still loads of play in the front end. It makes the car feel like its 'hunting' around while going in a straight line at speed.

Anywho, thanks for reading my novel I just typed. This is the first RC I've had in a long time that actually inspires me to run/abuse. Been away from nitro too long playing with Baja's and a variety of electrics.

Ive been getting my Roto Start to work okay without having to modify or anything. I found a happy spot between the LR lower arm and the axle where I can just sneak the stater shaft thru. I do have to compress the suspension just a little to keep it the shaft from hitting anything. But find that I push down on the glow igniter does that with my left hand and run the Roto Start with my right. No help needed.

Hi wwit welcome to the forum fella!..

Not sure if I read this right but did you say your going to buy a d8t kit to use as parts for this ?

If so don't scrap this and run with the d8 it's way better than a trophy .. The trophy is a poor man's d8 hence why folks upgrade over time to resemble a d8 ..

You don't hear much state side about the trophy because there's just so many others that are slightly better cost less and have far better parts support out there. Don't get me wrong I loved mine to bits and I do play around with the idea of another but that soon passes when I remember the constant tweaking and tool wrenching I had to do when I had mine ..

Just my 2 cents on it

would anyone know where I can get some body/shell posts/mounts for the Trophy 3.5 nitro, cant find them anywhere :please:

In future it's easy to just check the part number in the manual and goggle search it or enter it on one of the hundreds of online shops search bar

Thanks mydoddy69.

Yeah I hear what your saying. This was my first foray into Truggies and I'm sold. But already having a bit of buyers remorse or more like a "I should have bought _________ instead". The D8T is a strong 'maybe' right now. But I let myself fall into the spend more than I should trap on RC's so Im trying to avoid that again. So I've been drooling over the parts that King Headz still produces for the Lightning. But where Im not too deep into this financially...yet, maybe I should just fix what I break with cheap factory parts and put my upgrades budget on hold and save up for a Losi 8ight 2.0 or possible the AE FT truggy.

That sounds like a good plan don't let them shinny upgrades rule that head

I was searching using the part number from the manual as it wasnt listed in the parts index, Typical I found it was the whole wing mount as a set instead of being able to buy the mounts seperately. google seemed to only show mounts from every other vehicle except the trophy, I found them a little while after asking....typical.

Thanks for the reply anyway, appreciated.

No worriers and it's very common on HPI parts to be in a bag with a load of other bits you don't want but have to buy just get that one silly bit you do want

Anyone found a good spring set up for the stock shocks? I found that the stock shocks dampen really well when I changed them to 50w. But springs are lagging. As they get use, they are getting softer and I keep having to add preload spacers. Spacers are okay up to a point, but I can tell these use a very flat rate spring and soft one at that. Heavier weight springs are going to be a must.

Thanks

Nope most folks end up swapping them out for something better, another expense !! .. I ran with HPI pulse rear shocks all round and that way you can use hellfire springs !.. There are plenty to choose from thou but at the time they where cheap

Been looking for ages and my patience is wearing thin :P

Go new lol. Second hand always brings the risk of getting a problem infested car

Yeah I think that is best

Just need to decide what charger and batteries next...

There were some listed on here... I know nothing about li-po lol

Not owned one, no

Only the hyper 7 nitro

What's the better option?

Trophy it is then

It is about the only option I think for parts etc

Can upgrade when I break the particular bits

and they can break easy depending on where you bash it out, but they can also fly like an eagle and take hits like a boss.... all down to luck, mainly bad with mine lol.

so far mine has been run over (servo flipped out and accelerated into busy crossroads), it got flattened the same day I joined this forum and to my shock the only damage was the servo and a very curved chassis, I have two failsafes now. lol

Once I had it straightened out and put back together it started first pull (after a 20 pull fully open throttle prime.) The Trophy can take a real beating. (mine has anyway)

Does anyone know how the compatability of the Trophy concerning shells? as in could a 1/8 touring car shell fit onto the Trophy with shell post modification? or any other shells anyone can recommend? getting bored of the graphite look.
