Another "paint on outside of shell"

I would like to paint my Texan cab shell on the outside with black PS spray, this would be over the stock Grey, plan is to remove cab from rear part, remove any fittings, key the shell with scouring pad mask windows and hit it with the black, then rub small areas of the black to let Grey pop through for a weathered look with what will be flat Black, but will the black be durable or flake of with every knock and bump?

Should be fine as long as it’s key’d , the stock Coyote and Big Rock  bodies are sprayed on the outside like that

I've never had  a problem with tamiya paint flaking. Just be sure to give it a quick wash with soapy water first and keep the paint coats thin and build up gradually

Just a thought but you could also try doing a coat of orange or brown first then it wold look like rust developing on the panels whenever it got scratched.

When i resprayed my mauler I keyed the panels then gave it 3 coats of green garden furniture paint. Since then it has had plenty of abuse and apart from a few scratches it is fine, no flaking at all

I have put this on hold, gonna wait for the clear cab shell to come back in stock and do a fresh paint job

The clear shell is in stock and now ordered so the rig will get a fresh look, and should be pretty smart for it
