E Revo 2.0 newbie

Recommended Posts

I know it’s probably overkill but could I run. Max 6 esc in the revo safely? They seem to be more readily available with the traxxas connectors which would suit me better at this current point in time.

also does anyone know if the max6/8 can be used with the Wi-fi programming module or if it needs to be done via a programming card?

If you can find a way if mounting it, the Max 6 would be fine, but its bigger than the Max 8, but should still fit fine

Also, youd need to check what size bullet connectors are on the motor, and if the stock motor wires are  long enough, as they plug directly into the ESC on a Max series esc, theres no fly leads. Looking at pictures it doesnt look like theyll reach

I am being stupid I just realised model sport have the max 8 and you can select which type of battery connectors you want 🙈 Think I can just order this.

Just be aware im not sure you will be able to ‘plug’ your motor into that ESC as I dont think the cables are long enough so youd need to solder up an adapter

So started to strip the car right down and basically took everything off so was right back down the chassis.  The new ESC arrived along with a new spur so i went to try and take the old pinion off the motor and it's totally jammed on there.  I removed the grub screw first obviously but there is just no movement in it at all. Should the hole for the grub screw line up with the flat part of the motor shaft as they currently don't and wondering if that's why it's jammed on or if it's been glued with loctite or something.

I am not sure what i am going to do now as I don't think I'll get a pinion puller in cause of the motor mount, now wishing I had just gone for esc and motor combo as I may end up having to buy a new motor now and it'll cost me £80 and I could have got one with my esc for just an extra £40 🤬

I'll maybe just build it all back again with the old gearing for now but any suggestions of how to get the pinion off?  I have limited tools (no vice or torch for heating etc).

Cool I’ll maybe invest in one of them. I’ve just put it back together for now with the high gearing and I’ve left the grub screw out so will do a bit of testing with the new esc and see if that maybe loosens it off.

currently trying to programme the esc, not sure what settings to go with but when I was setting up the throttle it felt like the brakes where I little soft so I have increased that from 50% to 75%. Changed the punch level to 5 as thought try it at the fastest first 😂 and I have set the low voltage to auto(low) which I think is the correct setting for the traxxas batteries as they are fairly low c rating (25).  Changed the lipo detection to 6s rather than the auto as it recommends that in the manual.

do these settings sound about right? Or are they way off and I have missed other settings I should be looking at?

Would you use drag brakes?

Aw ok, thanks, not sure how much jumping I will be doing initially but sounds like I should keep it off.

erm I think so? I programmed the throttle for forward and reverse that’s all that was in the esc manual. Is there other stuff I need to be doing? It’s just the traxxas remote and only has two dials on it for trim and the traction control stuff. I think the traction control dial is multi functional but I don’t know how to use it and what other functions it can be used for as I am a total newbie 😂

Did the Traxxas motor plug into the Max 8 ok? Were the motor wires long enough?

Yeah I got them to fit ok thanks. They where a little loose despite being the right size connections but I just spread them out a little bit so they where a tighter fit. The motor wires where just long enough and no more so got lucky there. Had to go back to the high gearing tho as no matter what I tried I couldn’t get the pinion off.  I’ve kept the grub screw out and will run it like that and see if it loosens off. If not I’ll guess I’ll invest in a new motor at some point.

Sounds like you've calibrated it.

Settings you just play with to suit you.

Cool thanks.

yeah I guess I’ll see what it’s like on the settings I’ve put in and take it from there.  Got some stiffer spring to fit first and will take it out a run and see what it’s like.

I actually preferred my Traxxas trucks with the stock plush suspension, still do.

If you're gonna start ramping it, definitely stiffen the suspension.

The suspension when I got it was in a total mess and I am still not particularly happy with it. Rebuilt the shocks and seems a bit better but not right.  I’ll probably invest in some new shocks that are pre built to make sure they are built correctly and I just need to add the springs😂 but for now I think chucking on some stiffer springs will help it and be better than current ones.
