Don't waste your money, boost bottles aren't going to give you anymore power gains, get a tuned pipe and 4 shoe racing clutch if you want power. The 'science' of boost bottles is sound enough, but at the scale of these engines....they simply do not work. The science says that the idea of a boost bottle is to absorb pulses in the inlet from high speed gas flow. Imagine your engine is constantly drawing air into the inlet. When the piston closes off the inlet port, the gas flow hits a solid surface and reflects back. This causes pulses that can stall inlet flow. The boost bottle provides an expansion volume that can help absorb the pulse and help the continual gas flow maintain itself. As the inlet port opens again, the pressure drop draws the pressure in the bottle back down ready for the next cycle. They don;t do anything to put extra fuel/air mix in ...as some may claim...but they are designed to smooth out airflow and prevent hiccups. In practice....the volume of the bottles is tiny, and more importantly, the pipes leading to them are so narrow, that the effect is minimal. In the available time per revolution very little gas can flow through the tiny tubes. When you look at the total cross section of the inlet port, and the volume of the combustion chamber...that much gas has to flow each cycle to fill a cylinder. The amount of gas flowed through the tiny pipes in the same time...even allowing for a pressure increase when the slug of gas hits the brick wall of a closed port...is tiny. Now....if the engine makers cast larger port openings into the inlet to hook up to a chamber, they could have an impact. You want to have it as close to the inlt as you can, and that's not what these kits provide. In practice....they are also great ways to get air leaks in your inlet.....with the lean running problems you would expect. I suspect most people who see a power increase probably had a mixture on the rich side....and got more power from the leaning off caused by an air leak....... but then..I am a cynic by nature. 3 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
