Custom built CNC Machine

-BEZ-

Recommended Posts

I built this CNC about 3-4 years ago and sadly its been sat unused for some time and I've come to the decision to sell it rather than it collect dust as I don't have a use for it in my life anymore.

I bought the frame from the guys at ukcnc.net and then purchased over kill electronics (as you do) from cnc4you. Then designed and built a custom enclosure to house it all in from high density speaker spec MDF (its very quiet when enclosed)

I built it to make ally cnc parts and had intentions of running parts in my spare time to make a bit of side money but however life got in the way and work became busier.

The Specs of the CNC are below:

  • CNC.net Mini muscle frame (£1000)
  • 2.2kw Water cooled spindle with VFD inverter and water pump and tank
  • UC300 Motion controller (works from usb)
  • 4Nm digital stepper motors with driver (45V) - comes with a spare 4th stepper motor and driver for 4th axis or bigger frame

(items above cost just over £1000)

  • Licence of Mach3 (£110)
  • Fogbuster - best clip clearance and prolongs tool life (£350)
  • Custom built illuminated sound proofed enclosure (£150)

The CNC is setup to cut anything up to soft metals, IE copper and Ally, its not suitable for cutting steel you would need something beefy like a bridgeport for that.

It will also come with a huge selection of various collets for the spindle as well as a good selection of cutters and tooling as well as materials ready to be cut. (pics of these items to follow)

The CNC cost over £2500 to build,  Looking at offers close to £1500, I'm in no huge rush to sell but thought id offer it here first before going down the other routes as this kind of setup is ideal for RC stuff. Its a versatile setup and could even be fitted out with a laser if that's what you wanted to do.

Please note this is not cheep rubbish you buy on ebay and  all the parts have been sourced from the UK and from companies that specialise in CNC. The parts have been spec'd so that the electrics would easily run a much bigger rig ( as I wanted to have the flexibility to expand the frame without having to buy 2 sets of expensive electronics.

I have a few questions :D

What are the external dimensions of the enclosure?

What is the volume it can machine in?

Can I machine aircraft grade aluminium like 7075 t6?

As for postage or collection I guess if I want to collect it it would need to fit in my car, so my first question is important. If not would you be able to send it via a courier? I would prefer to collect it and I guess you would prefer it to be collected as that is the safest transport.

Questions are all good, yes it will machine 7075 t6, but you would need to adjust the speed and feed rates etc, much like with 3d Printing.

Best bet for specs is looking at the site of the guys who designed the frame : http://www.ukcnc.net/index.php/products/mini-muscle-mk2-routing-machine/#

but the cutting area is:

  • Cutting area (Approx)
    X-Axis 310mm
    Y-Axis 310mm
    Z-Axis 90mm

As for external dimensions its approx 76cm x 76cm  and 72cm tall

Courier is a no no really its stupidly heavy and bulky not to mention id put money on them damaging it in transit. You can remove the mill from the enclosure (i made sure to fit connectors so this was possible) Weight wise its a 2 person job.

Good stuff, I have measured and it should just fit in the boot of the car perfectly. The cutting area is also a decent size for what I would like to do with it. :D
