Hyper SS

Recommended Posts

I have a couple of questions regarding my first nitro

1, are the hyper 7,7tq & 7tq2 parts compatable with the ss? I ask as my lad is wanting a buggy/truggy and I was thinking 1 set of spares would be a good idea.

2, should my wheels lock up when I apply the brakes from 1/4 throttle?

3, does anybody use modelsport fuel? Or should I stick to Byron's 25%?

Thanks in advance

Rob

Yes most of the parts are the same

And if you are getting the wheels to lock up you are doing well cos hyper brakes are normally crap lol

And I normally use opti-fuel never used byrons

That's good news about the parts as for the brakes I'm lucky if it slows down let alone lock up lol

stick with bryons,or hpi race{not the rtr}there basically the same mixtrue

The HPI fuel is the same as Optifuel? Optifuel has only synthetic lubricant whereas Byrons has a castor/synthetic mix.

Papasmurf- I have not used the Modelsport fuel...it looks to be made my ModelTechnics...judging by the colour alone I am guessing that it is pretty similar to Duraglo/Dynaglo. I have used both and whilst they are perfectly useable fuels and are great for new/old engines, they do not compare to Byrons when it comes to ease of running/tuning and performance.

So had the car out today and she wasn't running right - boging down and very little smoke so due to the fact that I was having "one of those days" I put her away.

So I've just found the engine settings http://www.ofna.com/pdf/eng-hyper21.pdf

But if I turn the low end 3turns from flush its so far out compared to when I got it from ibleednitro it just look wrong, am I doing something wrong?

There are many different LSN setting data available for the Hyper.21.....I would say 0.5-1.0mm proud of the housing is a safe starting point with a 1mm slide gap.

Will this be anywhere near what your engine/altitude/temperature/fuel/plug/etc. actually needs to perform properly? Probably not!

Get it running....get it warm....adjust HSN first with wide open throttle/max rpm tests......adjust LSN with stop/stand/start tests...adjust slide gap as necessary to prevent clutch engagement.

Thanks for that I was going to have a play this afternoon but ended up cutting/splitting just under a ton of fire wood. Hopefully tomorrow will be a dry day and I will have chance to get it out again

Good luck on that dry day...I am in Somerset....I need to give up cars and look to boats I think. :)

I hope you have managed to keep the house dry we get flooded just outside our village to about 6' on the road and that's enough problems

Stay safe m8

Thankfully I am safe from water getting in the house where I live now....but getting to work/shops/etc. has been difficult....hopefully the worst is over now. :)

Where I used to live would get flooded all the time and that was 20 years ago....I would imagine it is far far worse now....

The SS is at a good price on modelsport at the moment, comes with reasonable upgrades compared to the tq2 but some people prefer the .21 instead of the .28

Mine is a.21 and doesn't have the savox servos but so far I'm happy with it as a first car although I did notice that a rear shock is leaking so need to find replacement or better a seal kit and refurb them all. Lids are after one too but I need to get a hump pack and build up a spares package(which means I will have to buy the kids something first), I was thinking of looking for a cheep roller

not all parts are the same between the cars. Let me know what you want to compare and i will look at my ss and tq2.

have you done the diff oils yet? As for shock oil stick to 45-50wt in the front/rear.

as for the tuning it will come down to trial and error, both my two cars have totally different settings on the carb.

make sure your mid screw is set so when you take the hsn out you can see one of the holes. These are every quarter of a turn. Most people say never touch this, but don't be scarred to. I run both of mine a quarter turn in from flush. Just make sure when you turn your lsn all the way in that it doesn't turn your mid needle.

in this weather these engines need a bit of pre heat as the take a while to come up to temp.

fuel wise i use both byrons 25-30% nitro and optifuel 25-30% both great fuels in either nitro content

anymore help just ask

not really done anything with it yet, I need to find time when I can sit and do a full strip and rebuild but as its school holidays I never seem to get 5 mins to do anything.

the main things I was thinking about spares wise are arms, hubs and shocks I presume these are the parts most likely to brake ??

Can you still buy screw sets for specific models?

well the shocks are different. 14mm on the tq and 17mm on the ss. Obvously you can put either on each car but the parts are not interchangeable.

just looking at the arms, they are different and don't look interchangeable and the same for the hubs.

the only thing i have had go are the top suspension nylons that join the shock to the shock tower where the pivot ball is. This seems to be the weakest part i have come across so far. These are the ones for the ss http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hobao-hyper-ss-cage-shock-nylon-set/rc-car-products/372390

the ones for the tq i am still trying to find.

centre drive shafts would be worth keeping as these bend quite easily.

they are different once again but the front shaft on the ss will work in the rear of the tq but that is all will work on the drive shaft front

Part number for TQ2 is H86050...looking at the manual.

Haha..nice picture....looking like much fun has been had. Now go clean up. :)

I've cleaned the thick off but don't know if I should bother doing anymore as the kids have already said we have got to go out again in the morning.

If it's raining I can always do a full strip then :)

Well I took the electrics off and showered it off, not perfect but loads better.

But thus has got me thinking about oil/seals for the diffs & shocks, what oil do people recommend ?? I'm thinking of doing a compleat strip&clean & the rear shocks are weeping slightly

Thanks

Rob
