The Dark Knight's Team Durango DEX210

Recommended Posts

My Team Durango DEX210 arrived in the post yesterday along with a few extras so thought I'd start a progress thread on it. Only picked it up from the courier company today as I missed them yesterday. I'll add a few build photos and seen as I'll be racing it, a few set-ups which I run throughout the season.

The DEX210:

The extras to start with, Team Durango gear diff set, AE 3000cst diff oil, Tresrey alloy wheel hex's, Tresrey alloy battery nuts and a RW racing 81T spur:

Step B complete:

Step C complete, extra Tresrey alloy wheel hexes:

Step D complete, this is the gear diff:

Step E complete, the gearbox built in MM4 configuration:

I then got over excited with the built and forgot to take photos. I assembled the shocks using 35wt all around just to use a starting point, once up and running I may change the wt.

Here is where I am up to now:

I painted it nice and bright so it's easy for me to see on track.

I've just ordered my motor and esc, hopefully they'll both be here within a couple of weeks. I went for a Thunder Power 8.5T motor and a Hobbywing Xerun 120a v2.1 esc, I already have a programme card for the esc.

I've also ordered 2 sets of tyres, I've gone for Dboots Multibyte front and rear, one set in A compound and one set in B compound. I have also order Dboots inserts, 1 set of soft and 1 set of medium, again, this is just as a starting point for me, I'll see how I get on with that set-up then possibly change.

I'd suggest an upgrade steering link as the stock one is too flexy. Alloy or carbon doesn't matter but its the most popular upgrade.

Unless you want to swap between mid and rear you don't need the rear cowling. You can just trim the body to the right shape.

Cool, thanks for the advice, I'll get one of them ordered   I've still to order the esc and motor so plenty time. I can't decide what turn motor to go for, tempted to go for a 8.5T

I'll be building it up MM4 configuration and more than likely keep it that way so thanks for the tip about the body too

Just updated the first post with some build photos, got up to step D last night. It's going together nicely, only thing I don't like is how big the plastic parts tree joins onto the front and rear arms, they have a large join on them making them awkward to remove smoothly.

Hopefully I'll have some time to build some more today

Well that was my first race Sunday just passed, I had a great day out. I stayed in 4th place throughout the day out of 6 people which I am pretty happy with. I was getting faster and faster throughout the day with a few set-up tweaks but everyone else was also getting faster.

I am having a problem with the buggy rolling over quite easily, I was advise by members at the club to lower the ride height which did help a bit but I still found it was rolling over quite easy.

I spoke to Si Coe on here who advised me to cut off the outer spikes on the rear tyres, I didn't want to cut them all off straight away so I have only cut off every second spike, I'll see how I get on with that, I haven't had a chance to test it yet, maybe this weekend if I have time.

I also couldn't resist buying a forward cab body shell, so I've also fitted that along with some stainless screws. I've also given the buggy a good once over, checking everything is working/moving as it should.

I was also finding my steering very twitchy, MB Models advised me to try some rib tyres on the front, so I have ordered some Dboots block pass front tyres

I also found my motor was running quite hot, I was initially running a 81t spur and a 28t pinion, by the end of the day I had gone down to a 24t but it was still running a bit too hot for my liking so I 've ordered a 22t pinion, I'll see how I get on with that.

The buggy is definitely more of a challenge to drive than my Mardave GT12 but it is great fun, especially the jumps :xd: I'm really looking forward to the next race which is on June 9th.

I've also ordered a few more parts for it which should arrive today so I update a bit more over the weekend

You are using a 10.5t right? I ran mine at 26/27 81 normally - with boost. 28 is too much, doesn't let it rev, whilst 24 is too low IMHO. It will run warmer than an unboosted 7.5t though.

When I advised you about the rears I must admit I assumed you were using rib type fronts. I prefer Schumacher stagger ribs (or cut staggers) but either way ribs won't dig in like spikes so should remove some of that roll.

You have however ruined the car with that cab forward shell. The standard 210 shell is low, sleek and aggressive, whilst the cab forward shell (in fact all cab forward shells) look like a brick strapped to the car!

I am running a Thunder Power 8.5t without boost and the punch settings wound down. I also have a 83t spur I could try out.

I have set of Dboots multibytes front and rear in A & B compound, I tried both compounds throughout the day and found myself using B most of the day which is softer. The grass was damp in the morning with morning dew and dried out as the day went. It was a scorcher of a day, so much so that I got a sun burnt head, I was in agony on Monday, I'll remember a hat next time.

Haha I actually really like the look of it now, but each to your own

I bought it from MB Models, it's called Cosmic Glow Orange: http://www.rccarshop.co.uk/index.php/body-shells/paint/fast-finish-paint/272-cosmic-glow-orange.html

I haven't used any undercoat on it, only used the orange

I spent most of yesterday afternoon tweaking the set-up of my DEX210, one of the most notable changes was cutting off every second outer spike off of the rear tyres to prevent grip in roll overs, this has helped alot.

Another update on my DEX210, I've fitted an Exotek carbon fibre rear tower. I bought this mainly for the extra tuning hole and just to have a bit of bling

To my surprise the carbon fibre tower is is ever so slightly heavier than the stock plastic tower!

Just found a good photo of my DEX210 getting air born last Sunday. Can't wait for this weekend, hopefully I'll learn a few tricks off of the more experienced racers:

Excellent thread, I'll be watching with interest as I'm thinking of getting a buggy to race

Thanks dude  I am actually thinking about selling this and getting a 4wd as that is pretty much what everyone else runs at the club. I still have a lot of fun racing with this though but it is off the pace of 4wd buggies, unless it's just my driving skill :xd:

A small question thats always bugged me is where on earth do you get rrci decals from?!?

Looked and looked but never found a thing! :P

It used to bug me too so I emailed rrci and they sold me some. But since then, they are up on the traplet web site
