Technically yesterday…. Building up a scaler using Scout/Mauler/HSP/94180 bits bough as they pop up cheaply. Started on assembling the front axle, red & tacky grease, RC bearings and Schmaucher diff shims.

Fitted a new spur and far better meshed pinion (87/14 all a good learning experience!) both attached to the (far too powerful really) Holmes 550 12t crawlmaster, and all cleaned, greased, and plonked back in the Scout. It didn’t stay like that long…. FullSizeRender.mov Who needs a Traxxas eh 😉 it’s even on a Nimh still 😂

This is my set up, it’s the same guts but without the posh alloy case! lives in a really useful box, probably owes me about £11 all in. It’s just low enough to sit in my tool chest draw. So Holmes Hobbies 550 12T in a Scout, lively on the test drive, dare I say too powerful for a scout chassis? To the woods to break it 😂

It took a few hours, but bearings cleaned, grease re-packed in axles and a good scrub and shes good to go 👍

Tried some 1.9” tyres (Ebay specials) on the Scout - baring beaching because of the smaller diameter I was quite impressed! Next stop get some 2.2” tyres with better grip! It always looks green and lush when it’s wet in the woods, all rather therapeutic. However your own childish glee at dragging an RC through mud and puddles cannot be beat 👍 My utility does now stink of pond water and GT85 however 😂

Hey @walkbythesea is that one of those £14/15 ebay specials? I bought a SCX10 clone gearbox I probably didn't need, but it looked pretty 😁 Metal gears and bearings inside - both dry as a bone of course! £22 delivered but I do wonder what its like under load?

Thats why I took the pictures before it gets enjoyed 😜 My wifes to blame really as I was buying a Rising Fighter buggy for half the price but she wanted her to have a Pumpkin like she did when they first came out!

Finally finished this off today, soon to be bashed to high heaven and covered in mud/sand/chocolate when my little niece gets her hands on it - which I hope she does because Pumpkins and Lunchboxes always look better ‘enjoyed’ and played with! Standard Pumpkin bar some soft tyre foams all round and ballraced. I did add a 55 turn crawler motor as a temporary measure till she’s to grips with it, and used a Hobbywing 1060 in crawler mode - no brakes but full throttle from forward to reverse just like an original mechanical 3 speed 😂 You can just about make the on/off switch reach the hole that once held the resistor. I went heavy on the heat shrink on the motor/ESC leads at both ends to give them a fighting chance. Still wheelies too 😁

I think it’s making everyone hungry 😂
