  1. electronic resistors, any idea what rating i would need to drop 8v dc to 5v dc

      You need to know the current draw, so you can work it out and get the correct wattage resistor, regardless of its value in ohm’s.

       

      Hope that helps, can do calf’s with ohms law, V=IR.  V would be the volt drop, I the current draw and R the resistor value.

      @SWF thanks for reply, i will just order some 9v LED lamps and then good to go

      Just for completeness, the resistor wattage would be calculated by multiplying the current by the volt drop, I x V. 
       

      They can get hot, fine if there are only a couple of led’s but the 9v option is best if there are lots of them.
