  2. New Ebay payment confusion. Help Please.

I was informed by Ebay recently that they are stopping using PayPal as a means of receiving payment if you sell on there. They said this would mean they would be dealing with all transactions themselves and I pay a one off payment per transaction, which "most sellers will pay the same or less than before". I've just sold an RC for £120 with free delivery.  Ebay have taken £15.66 for their fees. Now correct me if I'm wrong but that seems a bit excessive to me. If the payment had gone through PayPal then their fee would have been £3.78 on the £120, and I'm sure Ebay wouldn't have taken another £11.88 for their fees.  Am i missing something or are they blatantly ripping me off.  I knew where I was with PayPal and the money was instantly in my account as soon as the buyer paid. Now it seems I have to wait a few days. I'm not happy about this. Why oh why do companies have to change a well tried and tested successful way of doing business. OK rant over. Any advice would be welcome. Yes I know. "Stop selling on Ebay"  hahaha 😂😂😂

@Guns and @Fly In My Soup  Thanks very much. I feel better about things now. I will have to try using other outlets like FB to sell stuff like @DogBone

@turok007 I've never used Ebay's "options" for delivery. I used to use Hermes regularly without any problems. But because of Covid19 I recently paid for a collection and delivery instead of taking it to the drop off shop. They never turned up to collect and didn't reply to my emails. After three days of waiting I booked a collection with Royal Mail, (which was actually cheaper). I took out a case with PayPal and was refunded two weeks later. Thankfully the buyer was a friend and was very understanding about the delay. I go direct to Royal Mail all the time now and they've always collected next day.

  4. Has anyone bought from Make-It-Build-it recently. I ordered some parts that were "in stock" on Saturday and my order is still showing as "Being Processed" in my account this morning. I've emailed them but had no reply. The irritating thing is I received am email from Modelsport the next day notifying me the same items were back in stock, and I always prefer to buy from them because I receive my orders within one or  two days, regardless of the pandemic.

    1. Only4Fun

Thanks for all your replies.  Unfortunately they confirm my initial suspicions. They did get back to me via email this afternoon and this is what they said :-

      "Hi Derek,

Just looked into this for you.

It looks like this should have left us this week but we had a stock discrepancy on the Fenders, I do apologise as you should had received an update regarding this and this it looks like this wasn't sent.

We have more stock due to arrive with us next week and we'll aim to get this dispatched as soon as available to send.

Apologies for the inconvenience, please let me know if I can help with anything else.

      Kind Regards

      Emma

      Make It Build It"

So it sounds like the same thing has happened to me too. I ordered some Sendero inner fenders from them because they were the only place that showed them "in stock" at the time 😄

I don't know if I should buy another set from Modelsport and if I do get the ones from MIBI I can sell them on or wait and see what happens next week.

One thing I am certain about is I won't be using them again.

I have the GMade Sawback GM52004 which is the prebuilt chassis version. After I read this post I wondered about mine.

Unfortunately it's 2am at the moment and it's in the cupboard so I can't get it out without waking my wife.

So I checked the photos I took of the box it came in.

Low and behold it shows the small leaf on top of the long leaf.

I guess it's built like that at the factory ?

After looking at some photos of my chassis I can confirm it's the same.

Looks like I'll be doing some maintenance tomorrow too 😀👍

  8. I asked RCmart how come the ad shows a CC01 it does show a CC01 doesnt it?

They replied no it's an mst cfx but deleted the pic from the ad too. But forgot the red version..

Pic 1 is the mst. Pic2 looks like a cc01. Looks like front independent suspension and tamiyas bumper.

I wondered if they are just including the tamiya body or something but they flat out denied it shows a cc01 lol.. This ad still does.

The first CMX chassis kit was originally designed for Tamiya CC-01 bodies. Then subsequently the CFX, which is better. That's why they come with the extra links for all three CC-01 wheelbase lengths. The Bronco, Toyota Land Cruiser 40, Unimog 406, and Toyota FJ Cruiser bodies in the CMX kits and RTR's are Tamiya bodies. So I would assume that the Bronco body is a Tamiya in the CFX equivalent. I bought the original MST CMX chassis kit a few years ago and use my Tamiya Pajero Metaltop Wide, Isuzu Mu, Toyota Land Cruiser 40, VW Amarok and Toyota FJ Cruiser bodies on it. They fit the different wheelbases perfectly. (I had to buy the Loops mounting kit for the Pajero and Mu bodies though)

I don't know why RC Mart didn't give you a straight answer. Maybe something was lost in translation ?

  10. Is there a guaranteed safe way to sell items on Gumtree, via online & post, rather than face-to-face?

Or are you always better off doing cash on collection?

    1. Only4Fun

      Only4Fun

I post items I've sold via Gumtree if the buyer arranges delivery with a signed for service with insurance.

Obviously a face to face transaction is preferable and the safest, but if the buyer is too far away I will post.

I sent a bone china tea set to Scotland from Hampshire a couple of years ago and the buyer arranged the delivery.

Everything went well and it got there safely, and that was with My Hermes! :o

I don't think buying anywhere online is 100% safe.

I recently got ripped off buy someone on Tamiyaclub.

The mods banned the seller and I got a PP refund.

I have had mainly good buying  transactions on Ebay, but it's always going to be a risk.

I only buy via Facebook from people who live locally, so I can do cash on collection.

      The same with Gumtree.

Nothing but good transactions on here though :good:

    1. Only4Fun

      Only4Fun

It depends what you're into really.

The mag is primarily dedicated to racing, as the title suggests, but my main interest is trailing.

I found myself flicking through most copies, only stopping to read the odd article on a new release Tamiya,

or crawler that they had included.

If racing is your interest then you may like it.

My daughter got me a years subscription for xmas last year.

She doesn't know anything about RC. She just wanted to please her dad ?

I bought and paid £80 for this in July via another forum and never received it, or got any replies to any of my messages or emails to the seller. I know that this is the actual Boomerang that I bought because he is selling a Hotshot as well which was also on the same sales thread with the same photos of both RC's. Unfortunately I paid by pp gift. Lesson learnt. The seller has been banned from the site because of this. He was on there under the name of "Bails" I have since found out he has had several ebay ID's and lots of negative feedback, eg "item not received" and "doesn't answer emails", and then closed his account only to reappear months later under a different but similar ID.

I apologise if this post breaks any rules and please remove it if it does.

Ok, some good news. I contacted Paypal and they said that I sent money by "send payment" and NOT "gift".

To be honest I thought they were the same thing. (hopefully I will get my head round PP one day)

So they have opened a case for me after I explained the whole situation

They are contacting him directly to ask for a tracking number as proof of delivery etc (like to see him provide that!)

So it looks like I may get my money back, and hopefully Ebay will ban him and save anyone else getting ripped off.

The fact that he is claiming to donate to charity disgusts me immensely.

People like that don't deserve to be associated with our hobby.

It's a shame really because it's a really nice Boomerang.

Thank you all for your replies. I have just reported the listing to Ebay as being fraudulent. Unfortunately they can't keep me updated because I didn't buy it from Ebay. I saw that it already has 7 bids this morning. It is so tempting to message the seller asking why he is selling MY Boomerang, but obviously I can't because it may mess up the Ebay investigation.

Offered £170 for an item that regularly sells around £180-190, just to try my luck, he has it listed at £199, it gets declined, I offer £175 with a note, saying instead of declining, counter offer what you're willing to accept and it gets declined again.

    Moron, I'll buy elsewhere.

Hi Dan. I haven't done too badly recently with best offer.

I got my Tamiya Jeep Wrangler #58141 from Ebay.

It was originally on for BIN £160 or BO. I saved it to my watch list.

Then the price was dropped to £140 BIN or BO.

Then the price was dropped again to £120 BIN or BO.

I watched for a few more days then offered £100 and it was accepted !

One of the tyres has cracks in the sidewall when compressed because of age.

But I saw a new unused set of re-re Tamiya Isuzu Mu Type X wheels & tyres that were BIN £16 or BO.

The tyres are the same as the Jeep Wranglers.

Then the price was dropped to £12.50 BIN or BO.

Again I watched for a few more days and then offered £10 which was accepted.

I have had lots of other offers declined, but it's always worth a cheeky punt. You just never know.

I took them to a shop called CEX in the local high street.

They have a machine that cleans up the scratches.

It cost a couple of £ and took 5 minutes. They all play perfectly now.
